Just more torture for your brain.   :smt003 :smt004 :smt006

I predict that you'll need to catch 5 species to win the event, and maybe 6.

This could do it for you:

- 30"+ salmon
- 30"+ lingcod
- 20"+ rockfish
- 20"+ cabezon
- 14"+ greenling

Release video could factor in big too...

Keep dreaming, and be ready!   :smt001

I've been wearing my wetsuit under my drysuit lately...

A drysuit is a convenience.  It can HELP to save your life, but I'm not sold on it saving my life by itself.  The Boggs might bog me down in the water, but they keep my feet very warm, and I'm not likely to suffer much damage if a fish spine stabs me from the knee down.

Don't forget the BIG net...   :smt001

What's it gonna take to win?
It's gonna take 1 surf launch through mushy breakers, 1 successful navigation around pilot rock, 1 hell of a rodeo ride in 12ft mixed swell, 1 endurance-test of a paddle against 20kt offshore wind, 1 successful surf landing (or yard sale--dealer's choice), and 5 or 6 fish.
And a positive muthafunky attitude!

Newbe dumb question-

The rules say you cant use 'catch and release' to upgrade your fish (unless its for the health of the fish)

This doesn't make since to me...could someone elaborate on this point for me.

I'm mean lets say that I have already caught my limit of say 2 lingcod (both are 29") and I catch a 32" lingcod while fishing for halibut, doesn't it make sense to take your picture and log it because you have to release it anyway...am I missing something?

Sorry for the silly questions...this will be my first fishing tourny...

Newbies historically did well in the early years where it was single biggest fish. When the rules changed to multispecies format, the more skilled anglers have an advantage and have dominated. Having a game plan for each of the species and in what order and geographical area will be needed to be in the game. In addition you will need skill and luck. For newbies I would focus on rockfish and lings and make sure you can self-rescue and have a great time. The competition only adds some additional interest but the magic of GS has nothing to do with winning. The lost coast is as spectacular as big sur and a legit shot at salmon and pac butts. Personally I hunt big game only so don't care about greenlings and perch so won't be seriously competing. Hanging with my bros and pulling on some big fish is all I need.
