What it would take for me to win it is for the other 191 anglers not showing up :smt044
... but you still have to land a fish  :smt044
You are right!  I should have added "maybe win" :smt044

Miracles happen. Newbies can still win and place in top ten with the multi-species format, and with modest stringers of RCG and Ling.

I know cuz I won GS4 with a very unimpressive stringer,  AND got in the prizes last year as well with a decent stringer with a Verm, Cab and Ling. And I am not an expert angler at all!!   :smt001

Just saying first timers who don't know how to target salmon or pac butt and feel more comfortable just jigging for rockies and Lings shouldn't be discouraged and should give it their all cuz ANYBODY can win on any given day!!!

Just go out there and fish and have fun and you never know what can happen!!!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Correct me if I'm wrong but once you land a salmon with the appropriate tackle and have it on board you CANNOT put barbed hooks into the water any longer while the salmon still on board the vessel?

You're right but you can catch other species with barbless hook. That'a what Eric use all the time.

Strictly barbless for me on all my rigs.
That way a salmon bycatch doesn't have to be released.

Just more torture for your brain.   :smt003 :smt004 :smt006

I predict that you'll need to catch 5 species to win the event, and maybe 6.

This could do it for you:

- 30"+ salmon
- 30"+ lingcod
- 20"+ rockfish
- 20"+ cabezon
- 14"+ greenling

Release video could factor in big too...

Keep dreaming, and be ready!   :smt001

It will take a solid RCGL plus a kicker.  The question is... Salmon or Pac Hali?  :smt007

The rules say you cant use 'catch and release' to upgrade your fish (unless its for the health of the fish)

This doesn't make since to me...could someone elaborate on this point for me.

I'm mean lets say that I have already caught my limit of say 2 lingcod (both are 29") and I catch a 32" lingcod while fishing for halibut, doesn't it make sense to take your picture and log it because you have to release it anyway...am I missing something?

Good question and I'm surprised nobody has answered yet.
I can't speak to the rule itself, but I can tell you that in the scenario you described...if you have a limit of lingcod, you can no longer target them, legally. So you would be required to release it and it wouldn't count for the tourney either way.

+1.

If you have kept two lings already, any after that would have to be released...you could take a pic of them if you wanted, but they wouldn't count for CNR points since you have already reached your limit.

Last year I kept my first decent Ling and then I let a bunch go hoping for the big dog to take a pic of and release for the extra points. I ended up getting one just an inch bigger on my last drop, but then decided to keep him to eat anyway.  :smt005

Jim

Thanks for answering. I guess you're kinda rolling the dice with releasing a fish before you limit and it seems like everyone is on the honor system this way which is cool as we're all sportsmen here.

Looking forward to this!

With 2 days pre-fishing all my Lings and rockfish will  be released only keeping the Halibut and Salmon I catch!  :smt003 Make sure for contribute some of your pre-fish rockfishes and lings and other by catches to the GS7 Taco Shack, with this many people we will need a boat full of fish!
THanks

Same here Jimbo. I don't plan to keep any fish during the tourney. Not necessarily for the C&R bonus, but because I don't need to take home THAT much fish.
Just think...if all 192 people kept their limit, we would be removing ~2300 fish or ~10,000lbs of fish from a very small area. That would be a bad thing for the fish AND for us.
