Peace be with you my friend.  You have given much to many and been a positive influence on me.  Your willingness to help a fellow kayaker set the tone of brotherhood in NCKA.   I love you.

Spent a good portion of the day with Joel. We joked, talked, got feed by Ma and enjoyed ourselves. It was light and I really enjoyed "Red Dog" which was a story about a dog and his community. I want everyone to know that we even went for a short walk.
Oh yeah I even got the finger and not the pinky gang sign. Got to love this guy.
Coming over the SMB boy how beautiful it was even with all the sheep. You would have enjoyed it Joel. The wind was blowing and reported at 45 mph. Time to get a Hobie Islander tandem," just me and you Bro"......
You made my day!

We never met in person, but had an exchange in the PM section. I can understand your decision. I know the pain it must have been to make it. I was so close myself. I council many people who need organ transplants. And the decision you made was not a selfish one I know. I sit here writing this with a tear for a man whom I have never met. But out of kindness sent me a couple decals. That I proudly display on my car and truck. So when people will ask what NCKA stands for. It stands for a brotherhood. Whom looks out for one another on the water and on land. Thanks to you you are a great teacher to many here on the site and those will teach others and so on.
   Thanks Jeff L Horton.

Dear Joel, Although our paths have never crossed in person, I want to say thank you... for you have touched so many lives including mine and my boys... your kind soul and connectness has brought together so many lives, even beyond the direct NCKA community... you are an incredible man ...right there in each moment with those little ones to the old salty dogs around you now. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Peace be with you, David

My heart is filled with so much sadness. I am so sorry I wasn't there when the time got small. I will always cherish the times we spent together. You were a bright spot in my life. You will always be with me in my memories and as part of who I am today. I'd trade places with you if the Lord would let me.

I remember the trip to Pebble Beach where Angel, you and I were diving. You got out of the water without telling us and I was having a panic attack that I lost you then. Now my heart breaks because I am losing you for real. Thank you. Thank you for being part of my life. Calm seas and favorable winds await you my deariest of friends. You leave behind a torch to light the way, but it will take more than a army of men to carry that light forward that you so amazing weilded with ease. Your strength as a person in good times and in bad times is something any man should aspire to.

  Beautifully said Brain G...

I'm Back Home and can type out something other than an on a iPhone and not be in so much shock and sadness...

Mooch, Love you!!!  So Grateful that you are a part of my life and how that has made me a better person knowing you...  :smt045

As others have said, your quick wit and sense of humor, even in the face of your challenge is inspirational,

It is something we'll never forget and alway treasure...  It's surreal writing this with the thought that you are leaving us and crossing to the other side and the sadness we all feel, but I do understand your decision and with the karma and good will you have spread...

A Beautiful realm awaits...

I know we will always celebrate your memory and will take stock in what you have given us when facing our own challenges...

To Live life with Light Heartedness, Humor and Love...

Your one of a kind my friend and we all will miss you, but will Never Forget....    :smt004

Patrick and spent a couple of hours last night talking about how much we love Joel. There is no greater feeling of welcome than his raspy voice yelling, "Give me a hug," across a campground or boat launch. No one was an outcast when he was around. No one could escape teasing. No one was immune from his flirting. And his generosity is unbelievable. I've really admired how he's stayed with this community through the ups and downs of this illness. He didn't hide. He showed us how to cope in unbelievably difficult times with heroism and openness.

We love you, pal. And we're better for knowing you.

Joel, I couldn't have met a more helpful and happy person as yourself. With the many pms we have sent back and forth and tips youv'e gave me when I first got into kayak fishing several years ago.

Your hilarious pics always have me laughing.

When I think NCKA, I think of "Mooch" right away. You will always be the heart and soul of NCKA. Wish we could have gotten some more time on the water, but I will cherish the times and laughs we did have

Love you bro
