I have the entire weekend to pursue salmon.  Thought about doing the marathon drive to Shelter Cove but need to save the credits for GS7.  I'm open to launching anywhere in the bay, Moss Landing or Monterey and ready to cover some miles.

Anyone else interested?

Josh

Glad I'll have some company.  We'll figure out the details in the next couple weeks.

I'm willing to try!  But without reports fishing could be tough!  Will be evaluating launch sites by weather conditions, but top of my list would be Moss if the conditions are right.

I will try to sneak out for a few hours before my baseball game @ 1230. Or just wait til Sunday. But I've hit the salmon opener on my yak for the last 7yrs (minus the 3yrs it was closed LOL). Yet to see anyone in a yak land a salmon on the opener...but it's not for lack of trying! Me, Dan, sackyak put in like 10+ miles in extra-sloppy conditions 2yrs ago. Not to mention the 14hr roundtrip drive to Da Cove for opening day of 07.
So, yeah, I'm excited too!!! We have 3 main options on this side of the bay: Pinos, Soldiers, or Moss. I'll keep my ears open for helpful info & pass it along as time draws near.

No worries if you can't make it Sat.  It's my birthday weekend so I'm planning on fishing Sat., Sun. & Monday!  Hopefully I can catch at least 1 fish in 3 days.

Usually in the beginning of the salmon season, the fish are usually deep and way outside the canyon. I heard some good news that there are tons of krill stacked just outside Soldiers Club in Monterey so hopefully the salmon will be a little closer inside.

Less than a week away!  There will be some swell but still some safe places to launch.  Hearing rumors of salmon bi-catch from the sand dab fishermen.

I'd be up for going out at Moss too if weather is good....I'm bummed about Shelter Cove, but really want to get out somewhere for the opener...let me know if you want some company-

You're welcome to join us but I'm waiting a couple more days to commit to a launch location.  The swell should start out moderate on Saturday and come up all day, peaking Sunday morning.  With the combination of SW wind swell predicted and the building NW swell we might want to plan on a safer spot than Moss Landing.

I'm currently leaning toward paddling out from MBK or San Carlos Beach and head north toward the Soldier's Club, or head west toward Point Pinos.

Either way, be ready to paddle and if you tend to get sea sick, take your meds!
