I'm currently leaning toward paddling out from MBK or San Carlos Beach and head north toward the Soldier's Club, or head west toward Point Pinos.
Either way, be ready to paddle and if you tend to get sea sick, take your meds!

This is probably my plan for Sunday, given the forecast. Leaning toward pinos right now, but saw a few boats messing around north of seaside this morning...it was FAC and clear as a bell. It figures the forecast calls for 10ft swell on Sunday.

Then it's my plan for Sunday too!

Yeah, looking at the trend it's definetly building.  Fair bit of wind in the prediction so far as well.  Monterey is sounding better, and if still really windy might opt for just going for a sail in SC.

10ft doesn't sound like a lot of fun either

I dont see that anywhere in any of my forecasts.  4-5ft currently.  If Pat was looking at NOAA last week, it was telling lies I tells you!!! :smt002

Ah, 4-5 if the wind isn't too much would make for a nice day  :smt002

Still crossing fingers for the opener. Are you guys only on for Sunday? From NAOO:

Sat: SW winds 5 kt...becoming NW 5 to 15 kt. Wind waves 1 to 3 ft. W swell 4 to 6 ft. SW swell 3 ft. Slight chance of showers.

I would definitely want to hit the day with the best weather forecast...of course wouldn't mind doing both days if its safe http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/Smileys/Lots_O_Smileys/001.gif

Do you guys do a surf launch at San Carlos Beach? Just wondering about parking and access...I've fished out of many party boats in Monterey, just dont have any ideas about the logistics for kayak launching in this area and of course there's parking...

I'll be fishing both days, and probably Monday too.  San Carlos Beach is an easy surf launch.  Nice walk way all the way to the beach.  Plenty of paid parking.  MBK is an easy lauch also but a longer haul across the sand.  Anyone have a preference?

I've got wheels for my yak so no preference. Just need a time and location and I'm there (weather permitting). Saturday for sure, maybe Sunday (wife permitting)

I have a question for you pink pursuers.  Why is it that we have members going after salmon at Shelter Cove and Monterey area now,  but not the Salt Point Area?

Easy answer for me is that I live in Monterey.  Nothing better than catching salmon at home.  And with the early reports.....

Good question Ray!
For me, I don't wanna travel very far to fish. I only expect to yakfish outside Monterey Co a few times this year. So that's my excuse/reason. :-)

I'm not sure about Salt Point but how about nearby in Bodega?

Isda mentioned it in the other thread about knowing where the fish are concentrated and it's spot on. There's always a chance that you will find the school yourself but it's difficult because of there's only so much ground that can be covered in a kayak. Most of the time, the radio chatter will tell you where the fish are and at what depths -- even bait or junk color.

Less than 3 days away!

So here's what I'm thinking.

6am launch from San Carlos Beach.  Head to the Red Can and troll from there to the Pt Pinos Buoy and back.  Probably be about an 8 mile round trip.  If the NW winds pick up it will just help us back to our launch site.
