In addition to the kayak manufacturers listed above, sponsors include; Okuma, Shimano, Baja Resorts, Maui Jim sunglasses, and many more. Once again, we will have boats on the water providing bait to the participants, bait provided by Everingham Brothers Bait co. This has been the biggest event of its kind every year and we hope to continue that tradition. Last year we had 125 entrants and we think we will pass that this year. If anyone has thought about getting into kayak fishing this would be a great time to see what it is all about, everyone is welcome to come by and view the launch or come by the awards BBQ and meet some of the participants.

And that is what it is as much as anything, it is a fun event for a good cause.
I would love if some of the Norcal guys could make it. We have also received special room rates at a hotel only minutes from the launch

I have lost a good friend to brain cancer and have another good friend fighting it right now.  I will be in Ketchikan until the Sept 6th.  I'm not sure on the logistics of getting down there yet, but If there is any way I can make this tournament, I will be there.

I am sure we can scrape up a kayak for you. What I have done in the past for the tournament is charge $45 for the kayak rental and put all that money to the charity. I do not rent rods though.

Just to be clear Don, the Moutcha Bay Derby is not one of mine.  It does sound like a nice event and there are people from NWKA going, although not me as I'll be in Ketchikan as previously stated.

We now have five kayaks to give away at the event, Ocean Kayak, Hobie, Wilderness Systems, and Cobra plus fishing gear from Okuma and Shimano, and seven pair of Maui Jim Sunglasses and tons more. Time to sign up. Make a long weekend of it the yellows should still be chewing. Love to see some of you guys down our way for the event.

Hello Jim    Nice Dorado!!!! :fishing1  Looking good on making it dowm there, still a few "snags".  Could you give me more information on the "discount hotel situation"?  And the kayak situation, are they set up for fishing, can I bum one?  Is it possible to beach/car camp close to the event? Tring to figure out if it is cheaper to drive or fly.
Thanks,

 DANGLIN

The discount rate on the hotel has passed, though this is past the season so you may find some decent rates in town. I would try some spots in Mission valley. There is a Best Western Seven Seas there with decent rates. http://www.bw7seas.com/
As far as camping you could try Camp Land on the Bay. http://www.campland.com/
It would be about ten minutes from the launch.
I charge $40 for a kayak with rod holders for the event, this fee goes to the charity. I have P15 13 and BG
I hope you can make it. Bring along some of the others and car pool.

WOW, Good luck to you my friend.
That really brings it home as to why events like this are important. I don't know of anyone that has not been affected by this affliction in one way or another. My brother in law passed at the age of 38 and both my father in law and mother in law are battling it.
I know it is a long haul for you guys up there, but if you can make it I guarantee a good time and good food.
Once again Steve I wish you all the luck in the world, my prayers go out to you and your family. Get down here and we will go fish
