Hi everyone,

I need help deciding which reel to get. I'm a lefty and can't decide which Toro to get. There's different toro models & can't decide. I need a reel to fish from my kayak and shore for halibut and stripers.

If you guys can point me to the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Budget is $150-200

Thanks

I think the 51, and 61 are the two with clickers which would be very handy for both WSB and Halibut.  I had the 61, it holds a TON of braided line, very lightweight and I really miss mine!  :smt009

Revo Toro winch is an awesome reel. You can tackle any species with braid on it and it has 22 lbs of drag. Highly recommend it.

Wow, thanks for the reply guys, looks like I'll get the toro winch 61. Cheapest one found online is $238.

What kinda rod are you guys pairing it with?

Thanks again,

Benzo

I had mines paired with a heavy shimano crucial 7'11. It would be great with a shimano trevala if you only plan to fish it off a yak.

Rookie.Slayer,

I need a reel to pair it with that I can use from my yak and shore.

What is more important for your type of fishing?
-line capacity
-castability
-retrieve speed
-drag pressure

Because it sounds like you might be focused on the wrong reel. Especially if you plan to plug from shore and/or line capacity isn't a concern.

Not reel, I meant rod. What rod can I pair it with to use from yak and shore.

I woudl guess line capacity and castability is more important to me. I will be targeting stripers and halibut from my kayak and from shore in San Francisco bay.

The 51 will cast farther because of the smaller spool.but the 61 holds more line.if your going to be plugging more from shore id get the 51 spend more time on the yak id get the 61

Ha! My reading comprehension skills are lacking. If you already got a Toro then I'd say something in the 7'6" range with a medium fast action...stiff is good for plugging but you want flexibility for halibut, especially live bait fishing. My solution is to buy 2 rods haha!

+1 what Vince said too

Have a look at the Revo Inshore. This is my goto for all my plugcasting/drifting in the bay. I have it paired with a 7'6" St Croix Avid.
The Toro Winch I save for WSB, halibut, and Lings in the open ocean. Its paired with a Calstar Grafighter ML 8' (a bit too long for yakking IMO)

Sin Coast, you read my mind. I think your solution is the way to go. I'll pair it with a 7'6" medium fast action for plugging as you suggested. I'll use my ugly stik tiger rod when on my yak.

Iverfish, I looked up the Inshore but didn't see any for lefties.

I just want to thank everyone that replied on this post, you guys have really helped me out.

I have a shimano teramar wc series and it is an amazing rod . It is perfect for all swimbaits and iron jigs. Its a bit stiff tor bait though...its always best to have a second set up but just pick a rod for what you do most often.
