I know you're looking at a Revo, but, have you tried the new Daiwa Lexa ?  Less than a Revo and so much smoother.  Saw it at the show in Sacto - was really nice.  I was also looking towards the Revo, but, have changed my mind, I think.

They had them at the show for 129 and 159 (no tax) ... price is up a little now.

Bykergus, I'm still waiting to borrow a buddy's revo so I can try it out before purchasing. I did look up the Lexa 300, looks pretty good with what it has to offer but not too many reviews on it yet.

Thanks

Your thoughts intriqued me about the Lexa so I bought a 300 on Ebay this morning. 166.00 shipped no tax from Wis. Ill be letting you know how it compares. The Revos are the smoothest reel Ive ever had. Way smoother than the Curado's

Interesting thread.... so the Abu and the Diawa both have greater max drag, but the Shimano is 50 bucks more and I inclined to think it might hold it's "value" better. do I have that about right. I and looking to buy, kinda like the curado, but not if it is more money for "less" reel

One thing about the Curado thats kind of neat is that you can remove the spool easily to change out to different test or mono to braid. The edges of the spools on the newer Curado's is kind of thin. I would assume it would need some tender care after each salt use.

That's not necessarily true. Sometimes you pay mre just for the brand name.

If anyone has a Toro 50 or 60 for sale let me know. Not really interested in the Winch though.
Thanks, Rob

It depends on which model curado.the e series is a great reel where the new g series is crap.and yes the  better japan built curado has a very strong resale value

I thought GB2 gave the Lexa a thumbs up...and that's good enough for me!
Bought my Revo Toro on clearance from Turner's Outdoors in Socal for $139 last year. Great reel. Not a long-distance caster though. So I use it mainly for yakfishing.

I have the E7 The spool ends look thin to me and I talked to the Shimano rep at ISE and he confirmed that.
