Well I know a lot of guys who are going to say, Trevala/Revo. I am going to vote for a Lamiglas Inshore Classic IC 84MH with a Penn 975 CS. Great at casting and jigging. Enough backbone for 50-75# fish but very light. I built it with titanium American tackle guides and a Fuji reel seat. My go to rod for WSB, rockfish and halibut. I rig the Penn 975CS with Seaguar 20# Inviz X with 300 yards of 30# spectra backing. Well built and easy to maintain. Powerful gear ratio and smooth drag. Great for casting live bait and lures. So what is your favorite rig?

Fun question Scott. If I really knew the answer I could cut down a lot of my collection.  :smt001

I like the Trevalas for bait fishing but I feel that I miss lots of strikes when I'm fishing swimbaits because they are too parabolic to set the hook well. Then again I do have the light model and it may not be the same problem with the heavier models.

I think durability wise I would pick a calstar or seeker 196 with a daiwa sl20. You can do anything locally with that set up and it is practically indestructible.

For fun I would pick a lamiglas delta striper special with a Calcutta 300 te. Super fun rig that can also do anything locally except drag lead balls for salmon trolling.

If I was limited to a single outfit, I would spend the money on topnotch gear.  I would run a Van Staal  VM150 .  Although I never go out without my Tekota, I would prioritize a spinning reel for its versatility and ease of casting; especially light rigs.   The lamigas Tri-Flex Graphite Inshore TFX 7030 C would be to handle swimbaits over 1 oz. heavier than the recommended 3 oz. max.  This rod would also have the backbone sufficient to pull on a WSB for 30 or 40 minuets.

Trevala/Revo.  ;)

That would be my pick too. That combo can fish for most all species on the nor cal coast. Excepting sturgeon and WSB. Trevala 6-6 mh, Revo toro 60

haha....Not as far as I can cast an Abu 6500.  But the 975 is tough and smooth, better drag system, and heavier duty all around.

Does take a lot of maintenance though, esp yakfishing.....

Awesome thread! I don't get to the salt much and it would be awesome to buy something tried and true the first time. Ebay and craigs robots searching as we speak :smt044 thanks everyone for letting us into your arsenal  :smt044
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I am still using an Okuma Baidarka BK-C-761MH w/ old Avet SX (5.1:1) since 2008.  My Baidarka still holding up despite the reviews (knock on wood).  I drop rods too much to not have ones that float...
I have a Calcutta 401TE too but I like Avet's lever drag when I'm rockfishing.  Would love to get a faster SX tho...

Calstar 700L jigging model paired with the Avet SX. This is a great easy to handle setup that would do just about everything well inside of 1# and 200'.
