What the ?  :smt044
I uhhh don't know what to say guys. But I was kind of joking when I posted. I wasn't on the original list and never in my life even considered going on a yak trip to the islands. I mean, I've done plenty of research and know a little about the fishery down there and it sounds badass...but it's always been one of those things I see as "one day I'll go"
I better get my wife some flowers tomorrow before I pop the question!

Pat you can borrow this rig http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=38641.0 I also have a Calstar 750 ML/Newell rig if you prefer a conventional reel. I can lend you some iron to go with it too. Shoot me an e mail and I can give it to Etienne on Saturday if interested. I have to work so can't go with you.  :smt013 :smt013

Interesting turn of events :smt007! Just asked my boss for the time off and I got it!

Now I have to secure some funds; that $500 gas bill for GS would have just about covered this trip... :smt013

Make this happen Glen!   We need your spirit and ability to fight off sting rays on the trip.

Pretty standard stuff similar to what we fish here for rockfish, halibut, and WSB.  In addition, there will be live bait, so bring some 1/0 or 2/0 hooks and a selection of egg sinkers.  And some yoyo irons in standard colors but make sure to bring some scrambled egg and white.  I"ll ask CJ if they have a more detailed list.

I'd bring some 3/0 ringed circle hooks for the bigger sardines. I like surface along with yo yo iron. Since YT may be around, I would bring butterfly jigs and wax wings if you have them. If you don't, wouldn't waste your money.  Bring a kelp cutter rig for the yo yo iron and trolling baIt near the kelp and a 20-25# rig for swim baits and live bait. So you really only need 2 rigs unless you want to toss surface iron then you would bring 3. The SCAL guys add 1-2 bass rods but that is overkill IMO.

Thanks Scott.  I'm bringing my Calstar glass 220 for surface jigs and yoyo.  196 for live bait.  And, medium GLoomis spinning rod for calicos and bonita.....  paired with Avet SX (30#), Penn 975 cs (20#), and Penn Slammer 460 (17#), respectively. That should do it.

Question:  why do you recommend the ringed circle hooks?  I think I know the answer, but love your explanations......

There is a chance at some YT's right?  What do you use to target them?  Bait?
