That's exactly what I thought when I saw that boat. Theft of crab should = boat impound.

I thought Poaching the F&G can confiscate stuff used to poach. Maybe we should follow this a little closer. To see what happens to those guys.

I think we should attach a submarine sinker to the trap so when this bastards pulled the trap the bomb will explode and it will turn this bastards in pices, than  will collect all the remains and use them as bait the question is will the crabs eat this kind of shit?

I fear, that these dirt bags will only get the proverbial "Slap on the wrists" and will be out doing the same thing again in a few weeks.  I'll be happily surprized to hear differently, that the boat owner did in fact loose the boat. However, my gut feeling is nothing like that will happen.. :smt012

You shouldn't lose your boat for pulling someone else's pots. That's just ridiculous. Punishment should match the crime. And this crime is so minor. Keep some perspective here. It was completely legal to pull others' pots until like 3yrs ago. IMO they should be fined. But if they are caught doing it again, harsher punishment s/b considered.

So you don't consider this poaching. It that case should a person lose their gun while  poaching? As that is the law. The problem we have is not enforcing our laws and penalties. Those laws were voted in by our representatives or the populace. But never seem to be enforced. I agree it would be harsh. But isn't that what the deterrent is suppose to be?
Just my opinion

F*ck that. It's theft, bro. I don't care if it was "legal" a few years ago. I see it no differently than someone going into my car or garage and stealing something from me.

Do you consider theft a minor crime? If you left your laptop or nice camera on a bench in your open garage by accident and went to take a leak and came back and someone stole it would you not want to smash their face in? Would you want that person to just be fined or would you prefer they at least went to jail?

Pat, it wasn't a crime then but it is now. & it should be within reason for the boat to be impounded & the accused thieves to pay for impound costs until it's been decided by a judge whether the accused's punishment will include the loss of their boat. As other types of theft have shown even the loss of the boat may not be enough deterrent but it should be available for judges to use if they decide to. You saw how nice that boat was that was caught red-handed recently. Those guys are running around stealing crab to be dicks not because they need the crab to eat. I say Fuck Them......they should lose that boat.

Those asshats knew exactly who's pots they were pulling, Not theirs!  They have absolutely no business pulling anybodies pots but their own.  "To check what bait was being used" C'mon really.  No they were there to outright steal the contents and or the pots!  And yes, if caught red-handed in the act of stealing or poaching, they most certainly should loose that boat!

Just to play Devil's advocate...

Should you lose your boat for pulling pots that are navigational hazards?  Pots that are abandoned, or lost?

Of course that doesn't apply here but perhaps that's why the law isn't as harsh as some might like.

Punishment should match the crime.

Agreed.  Having a boat confiscated in a non-poaching F&G violation is a little steep.  Fine of $1K per person outta teach them to buy their own gear.

Good to hear a little justice was served. I'm sure my pots were raided the one time I left them for an overnight soak, and only came up with one legal. Unfortunetly it doesn't happen enough to slow down the poaching.
