I've never felt any effects from abalone, but I have gotten high on uni before...I ate a LOT of uni one day after an abalone run up North (our guests who asked me to bring a bunch back flaked on us and I wasn't about to let it go to waste) and was just sipping on a glass of wine and all of a sudden I was way more giddy than I get after one drink.

Fish caught under the authority of a sport fishing license cannot be bought, sold, traded or bartered in any manner (Fish and Game Code, sections 7121 and 75). This includes any type of trade or barter of even parts with the expectation of receiving something in return

Thanks for posting that, Jim - it makes me cringe when people talk about using "sport" caught fish/game for barter or any other method of enhancing their livelihood outside of nourishment.

My mother in law told me a few years back about a nice man at her church who was selling smoked salmon.  I asked her if he's a commercial fisherman and she said no.  I told her, in no uncertain terms, that's illegal.  She said, "Oh, I think he's just doing it for gas money for the trips to go fishing..."  Yeah, right - STILL ILLEGAL AND UNETHICAL.
