My wife is looking at a job in North Carolina so I was checking out the NCKFA website just in case. at least the lettering is almost the same  :smt044 . When I ran across their Angler of the Year compatition I liked the format.

http://www.nckfa.com/online_tournament/

I think if this format was put into place here with modifications it would bring in more money to the site by offering seperate tourneys per month rather than just seeing who can get out and fish the most. I understand that it is difficult for most of us to even get out enough since some of still have kids and work that something like this would open up a more level playing field and possibly raise more money. Fishing for a species for 1 month allows a fun compitition I feel. Just my 2 cents.

Wow that site has some serious sponsors! Looks pretty big.

I personally like our hometown approach. But that's just me.

I didn't even see you on the list of AOTY? It does have a lot of sponsors but monthly tourneys would offer some fishermen different chances to compete in areas that they enjoy more and most likely get more people involved to a monthly tourney for a species they enjoy catching more. I just have seen the total list of AOTY not really expand lately. Just my thought but who knows I might have to  move there anyway.  :smt010

If you do move you will have a lot of new fishing opportunities. Aren't there reds down that way? Always wanted to fish for one.
I don't do AOTY because I don't fish the ocean except once or twice a year. I'd like to do it more, if I had the means I would. I was mostly referring to the web layout and how theirs looks all business. I prefer the NorCal way and like our little fish n chills and the tourneys we have occasionally. Didn't mean to offend anyone with my comments.
Sorry Doc.

rather than just seeing who can get out and fish the most.

I agree with moving away from something that obviously benefits people who have way more time to fish than others.

Full Speed Fishing's AOTY format is pretty good too.

So what are you saying, those who fish more catch more fish?  :smt003 AOTY is about the hunt to me, learning fish behavior, how to read the bite, and sharing knowledge, esp with those who have even greater knowledge for the fish that haunt us. If I spent as much time otw as I do reading fish scripture, I'd certainly be fishing more, but likely catching less!

North Carolina huh Jimbo? At least they got some good & diverse fishing! That looks like a cool format too. I agree it does seem a little too corporate (not the same as our hometown-feelin buddy competition). This year is probably the best competition I've seen with so many guys fishin hard and a record # of participants. And the coolest part? Everybody knows everybody--we all bros! Or maybe I'm just naive haha.
I've hardly even fished this year and all 9 of my fish come from 2 locations (monterey bay or lake san antonio lol). But it's been a damn fun ride! Hey, lets go fishin!

perhaps we'll have monthly tournaments anyways.  I'm going to try to host 6 next year in the inland area... with a "cumulative point" prize format for top anglers in combined tourneys at the end of the year.

But right now thats only an idea and I need to get past Folsom, Amador and the Port  ;)
If I can get the right sponsors I want to adopt the total points ""Cup" for these 3 as it is.  Since each of these 3 are a total points for 5 fish of any eligable species, the standings should shake out differently than we have seen in any NCKA tourneys so far :)  and having a "cumulative points" prize category might help get people commit to all three. :)  and next year that will include Berryessa as well as any additional events that we can get together.

Ditto to what Abking said. I was talking about this with another AOTY competitor. Sharing and caring? hahaha We at length talked about a 50 day to fish format. You chose your days. Everyone gets 50 days. Evens out the odds tremendously.

Good luck Jimbo. Whatever you do you always have fun so there it is buddy.
