We were in Bodega bay walking on the beach with my family. Someone started yelling that a plane had hit the tower and we were being attacked (USA) by terrorists. We didn't believe till we went to the car and turned on the radio. We packed up and hurried home in the fear that there might be other attacks and felt real fear. There were drawn guns and scared people on the road... Glad no one chose to mess with us that day. I am so glad to this day that we didn't have a television to watch live footage... I pray this won't ever happen again BUT, I will stand ready always to defend this country and my family.
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I was in my Junior year of high school in Pennsylvania, and I was actually in history class when the first plane hit. After it happened and was all over the news my class stayed in history and brought a TV into the classroom to watch the news. And then the second plane hit... Crazy to think it was that long ago. Joined the military a year later after graduation.

I was studying for my pathology final at the university library in Budapest.  I was approached by a few of my Persian classmates who had obviously been crying. They took me to the computer lab where there was not a dry eye to be seen. I logged on to CNN and saw one of the towers in smoke and dust.  A few minutes later I refreshed the page to discover that the second tower had been hit.  An Israeli classmate who lived near the library invited us over to his place to watch the news since none of us could concentrate on our studies.

Delivering Wonder Bread... Heard the first plane hit, went to my buddies restaurant to see the TV. Stayed there till 4pm. Forgot I had the bread truck full of bread outside. We ended up drinking a bottle of Yaeger. He never opened that day.

I was on the Amtrak heading into Albany in the Bay Area on the morning commute. The conductor announced that a plane had crashed into the tower, and I remember thinking of a small plane hitting the tower, tragic but not catastrophic, then he announced the second plane, and I just knew it was an attack. I dated a girl in 93' whose mom was working at the WTC when that truck bomb went off in the basement, the first attempt to bring down the towers. I was in disbelief, and hung out at a bar all day in Davis watching it all unfold. My mom is a guidance counselor in NJ and had several kid's parents die.

At the gym.  I watched it all unfold on TV. I was a 2L and classes went on as normal later that day. It so happened that in our decedents estates class the scheduled topic for the day was the Uniform Simultaneous Death Act. Unreal.

We were still living in Davis at the time, leaving for the early morning commute to SOMA. Stopped into Starbucks Davis and the barista said a plane had crashed into the WTC, I thought - small plane, it'll be ok...

Then we tuned the radio to listen for traffic conditions, and holy shit the whole thing unfolded for us.

Pulled into the Starbucks in Orinda to regroup, I tried to get Ashley to cancel work and just go back home, because we were going to have to cross the Bay Bridge, a potential target i thought. Of course, being the dedicated worker she is we continued on. While going into the city, it was so surreal as we were the practically the only car Westbound on the bridge - the Eastbound lanes were bumper to bumper as the workforce raced to get out of the City.

Of course her work was closed for the day, and we spent most of the morning in an Irish bar down by Ghirardeli watching in f'n horror at the crucial moments of an unbelievable attack.

Americans, never forget this, and stay vigilant, terrorist cells can exist anywhere.

I was driving my chillax country commute when I turned on my car radio. Got to my office & they had a tv on, we watched it for about an hour then management closed the place down & said go home.
Spent the afternoon sitting outside wrapping our heads around it all.
Our IT guy at the office was in the reserves & was called up within the week. We knew the world as we thought of it would never be the same, and that sadly we had joined the rest of the planet as potential targets :smt009.

Oddly. flew to NOLA a month later & had my carry on bag thoroughly screened, with guards & rifles behind me. They wouldn't say what the problem was and finally waved me on since there was a huge line forming. I was allowed to fly, then once we got to our hotel in the Quarter, I found a 5" bladed serrated "swat" knife I had "lost" the year before, stashed  in a hidden zippered pocket in the bag. It went into our checked bag for the return flight :smt002.

spent morning in the traffic to SF downtown and calling my friend who supposed to have interview there. He responded later at late night that he was walking close to the WTC when 1st plane crashed and later he walked back to Brooklin for many hours....

I heard it on the radio driving into SF for a job interview and was completely stunned.  My cousin, Naval Lt. Cmdr. David Williams, died at the Pentagon that day.  Left behind a wife, 2 daughters, and their unborn son David, who looks just like him!  She's remarried and doing great, just saw them all at a family reunion at Tahoe this summer.  We never know what fate has in store for us.

I was living in a remote part of Florida as a boat rigger.  I had a ticket for the 12th to fly from FL to CA.  It took some time for the news to travel within town but it was complete disbelief.  Needless to say my flight was cencelled.  I was however on the first flight to leave the nearby FL airport the morning that flights were resumed and an errie silence was had by all who flew.  I purchased several different copies of Time, Life, etc... that all had features of the attacks.  Keeping those for the kids to look back on someday.

Moment of silence for those who's lives were cut short.... :smt010

9/11.
I was around 5 blocks from ground zero on Canal street lower Manhattan.  First day of Graduate school.  Came out of the subway at around 8:45am  everyone was running north.   We thought that it was just an accident at first, but soon realized  it was an attack.  witnessed  both towers come down. Ended up walking an elderly lady up  87 blocks.

I was a 2L ...

Me too.  Had no idea anything was unfolding.  As I drove to class past SJC Airport, I didn't have my radio on, when I noticed Cal trans posted message on a teletype screen that all flights were cancelled.  "That's odd," I thought.

Then I showed up in Con Law 1 and my classmate said both WTC towers were hit by planes.  We had a quick morning lecture after which all remaining classes were cancelled.
