Have you seen the PCP air rifles?!  Holy Crap!

Yep more $ than a good deer rifle

I think the ammo for the PCP rifles might be a bit cheaper though!   :smt003

wow, thanks for the great info!

Still not sure what to get but this is a great start. Thinking Big 5 or outdoor world, because they are both close. Thanks for the offer Vince.

Ill go down there and have a look around.

Is it legal to shoot BBs @ racoons in my backyard? My pelet gun's a super old Gamo but still shoots straight at 2am. Sometimes I have to defend my pond from zombie racoons. But I'm not sure if its legal?

What is the minimum fps one would want?

Gamo Website has so many models, it's impossible to choose!

Is .177 the standard, is there a advantage to a larger or smaller caliber?

I still have to sight mine. Although I prefer iron sights, the gun came with a scope so I might as well use it.

Going to depend on the city ordinances and obviously if you are in city limits. Mostly likely a solid NO as well as the whole no hunting at night thing. Go with the sniper's mantra of one shot one kill and your neighbors will never know. Give the screamers some wood shampoo if need. Or you just just call the SPCA and get a no-harm trap and turn em in like the bandits they are.

Back to the OP as far a caliber you can't go wrong with .177. Ammo is cheaper and more plentiful and the benefits of .20 and .22 cal aren't appearant until you are hunting often with it. I had great luck with RWS pellets matching the point to my use and highly recommend them for accuracy.

Also if an air rifle has an abnormal amount of recoil or vibration it typically needs to be properly oiled as per the manufacturer. I haven't noticed any excessive recoil or vibration in the RWS rifles I have shot but they do like oil. The Beeman's were good but tended to shake all their screws loose over time. I have only seen a few Gamo rifles but they weren't the walnut stocked version which I prefer. I can't form any kind of opinion on them until I have shot at least a few in walnut. Avoid anything Crossman though for sure.

Got the high $ Beeman from Wally World.  Came with .177 & .22 barrel.  One tough mother!  Heavy gun but it cracks like a 22 when shot!  Bunch of fun to shoot!  PETA wouldn't be happy if I posted my kills.....
