Normally shoot the Crossman stuff.  Have always had good luck with it.  The Gamo is undersized.  It almost slides out of my barrel when I load it.  The Crossman fits nice & snug.

I use the diablo jumbo.177 I find it's more accurate than the gamo

they have a nice benjamin on sale at mel cottons,  I use  to have a  cal 22  very accurate gun.

I got the Crosman 2240 .22 cal earlier this year. Only shot it a few times. I didn't realize how loud it was so haven't it shot in in a while, worried I might scare the neighbors lol. Saw a bunch of mods on youtube that could make it more powerful, when I get the chance I'd love to mod it.

I got a GAMO and put a flashlight/laser combo on it for night hunting raccoons.  It will take out a coon with no troubles at all.  Neck shots are best; it will paralyze them and they can't hang on to the tree.  The fall will do the rest of the job for you.  Next is a lung shot.  Not an instant like the neck, but always deadly.  Never shoot them in the head.  That's one tough skull!  I've had to take 4 or 5 head shots and even then the critter was crawling away when I got up to him. 

For practice, set up a clothes line with those old fashioned close pins only get the ones made of bamboo instead of wood.  Line up several in a tight row on the clothes line.  When you shoot, the one you hit will spin.  Easy way to sight in the left/right on a scope this way.  The bamboo ones will take several hits before they finally fail.

I once used a 1 inch thick piece of plywood for a backstop while shooting paper targets with the GAMO.  Within a dozen shots, there was hole blown out the back.  These things have a lot of power and a lot of accuracy. 

One warning though; the scope is hard to keep mounted solid.  Seems the recoil for an air gun isn't what the scope mount manufacturers had in mind and the mounts will start to move back on the rifle's rail.  Mark the mount and rail with a sharpie and see after several shots if the marks start to move from each other.  I eventually epoxy glued my mounts to the rifle with a dot of epoxy. 

As far as how loud; about as loud as a sub sonic 22 rifle round.  (But much more accurate than sub 22's.)

Correction to my earlier post.  It was the Beeman ammo that fit like a glove on a chickens nose.

I first got the gamo varmint hunter, It looked cool but I found the the silencer was pretty much fake, and when the light was on it made so much glare on the front ring, you could not see thru the scope. The laser is way cheep, only accurate at one distance, everything needed an upgrade. So I got a Benjamin trail for 300 bucks, 22 cal. HEAVY, comes with a sling, it has a 40 lb pull, super accurate, but as with most break barrel guns, there is recoils. It comes with a killer zoom scope with a rail on the gun. We had it at Totes earlier this year. The best gun there was the one that you fill with an air tank, super accurat, zero recoil, but over a grand... As far as pellets go, the ones that go faster that sound make a sonic crack, lead are quiet. So I think the money is best spent on a Benjamin.... I'll let you shoot it whenever you want.
Also, 177 pellets do not have the stopping power of a bigger pellet, they tend to make a tiny hole right thru and the animal will take off, heavier and bigger lead pellets, especially the flat head ones will not go thru and will drop the whee you hit them. Heance the 20 cal hunting rule to avoid injuring animals.
