Five years ago I lost my mother to cancer :smt010 and my job to budget cuts and declining enrollment :smt012

Three weeks ago my daughter blessed us with a healthy grandson :smt003

Yesterday I learned that my father has type B lymphoma with a tumor the size of a football in his abdomen :smt010

He has always lived a healthy active life, never smoked or drank, and always in good physical shape.
35 years as a high school PE teacher and coach, 55 years as the greatest father a guy could have.
He starts chemo soon and is determined to fight the bastard.

I'll be heading down to Oceanside soon to provide support and reinforce the love I have for this man.

Not looking for sympathy here, just saying make sure you let the loved ones in your life know how you feel every chance you get :smt002

"Life is like a box of chocolates Forrest, you never know what you'll get" Momma Gump

I love you dad!

Damn Tad....really sorry to hear about your Dad...I will keep him and your family in my thoughts and prayers...

Ana and I will be running the Nike Women's Marathon in October for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and if your Dad likes we would be honored to wear his name on our jerseys and "take him with us" on the course...just lemme know...

Thanks for the reminder about appreciating your loved ones every day...easy to forget and get caught up in the day to day stuff...

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Finding the half full part can get tough, Tad, but it's my best advice.  Life will happen, and it's up to us to deal with it in a fashion that does not allow forgetting why we're alive.  It's not just an eatin', sleepin', drinkin', exercisin', procreatin' gig - it's about the Love, Man.  You're a great son and a great friend.  WTG for being all there, Bro, and very best wishes to you and your Dad.   :smt010 :smt001

I hope all goes well Tad.  Cancer is rampant in my family.  I have seen family members pull through some pretty rough spells, gaining many more years.  This surprised even the doctors!  So never give up hope, life is so unpredictable.

Take your kayaks with you and take him out on the salt.  A little ocean therapy can do wonders.

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate news.  Really glad to hear that you'll be there to support him through all this though.  Most importantly, help your pops stay positive no matter how bad things are looking.

I moved back home to take care of my pops when he was diagnosed with cancer.  He stayed positive through all the chemo and radiation treatments like a trooper and lived 1.5yrs instead of the 8months that was expected.  Nothing beats the love and support of a family along with a positive outlook.

Wish you guys the best of luck...we're all praying for you and your family!  Hope your dad kicks that cancer's ass!

Tad, my thoughts and prayers for your dad and your whole family. As many have said before me...there is hope and there are many people (even in my family) that got many more years with treatment. Keep up a good fight!

I'm sure you've shown your dad what a great job he did raising you by the example you set every day.
Our prayers and best wishes are with the both of you.
