Hey Banjotoad,

Your right life is a rollercoaster of emotions. We have had the worst year of our life medically and financially. So I feel your pain. We also had a new granddaughter added to our lives. I will lift your family in prayer next time I talk to the man. I read in your post where you said "let your loved ones know how feel every chance you get." This is so true. You might not get the chance later in life. Take care of your dad and enjoy that new baby.

Kevin

Best of luck to your Dad Tad. I'll be thinking good thoughts for him in this tough time.

Thanks All!
I'll let dad know he has the NCKA family behind him as well :smt004
He's a gamer and won't let the evil cancer win without a good fight.
Will fly down to San Diego and spend a couple weeks down there while he gets started on chemo.
Wish the trip was to take the Revo down to "get some" in La Jolla, :smt012
next trip once he's in remission :smt002

Thanks again Bros!

Just saw this post. Tad, sorry to hear this. My family has been plagued with cancer as well. Lost my father and sister to cancer. My other sister and mom had cancer but beat it. Will be sending you, the family and especially your dad with positive vibe.

Cancer sucks :smt011

Thinking of you and your family every time I see this show up as unread.

To me, it is an empty uncomfortable feeling that accompanies this news.  Surgeries, tests and recovery periods just seem to extend this waiting period. My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer two years ago but is far from being in the clear.  I guess I'm saying that with any horrible disease it is a process that takes time to get through and the hardest part is probably the uncertainty that you feel as the persons loved one.  I wish you all the best.

Also, put him on a plane, bus whatever and get him to the best hospital for this stuff.  The local Doctors do a good job but getting to a cancer hospital is the greatest choice he can make.  I know two people that moved from Ca to Texas for this reason.

Finding the half full part can get tough, Tad, but it's my best advice.  Life will happen, and it's up to us to deal with it in a fashion that does not allow forgetting why we're alive.  It's not just an eatin', sleepin', drinkin', exercisin', procreatin' gig - it's about the Love, Man.  You're a great son and a great friend.  WTG for being all there, Bro, and very best wishes to you and your Dad.   :smt010 :smt001

Just got back from a couple weeks in Oceanside with my pops.
Saw him thru numerous tests and his first chemo treatment.
He is doing well, staying positive and following Dr.'s orders.
His first chemo treatment went well, no nausea or vomiting. :smt003
If all goes well he will only need 5 more chemo sessions, 3 weeks apart.

Told him about the support and well wishes you guys have shared with me, he got a big ol smile on his face and told me to tell you all thanks for the support.
Thanks NCKA, you guys are like a second family and I appreciate the support. :smt008

While I was down there my brother (a recently retired Marine Corps Colonel) gave the wife and I an insiders tour
of Camp Pendleton, the place is huge, more like a heavily armed city than the camp from Gomer Pyle :smt044

Also visited Hobie headquarters, only a few miles from Dad's place, didn't get a factory tour but talked with a warranty rep about my seat plug issues and gave him major props for replacing the yaks that have been chew toys for the landlord :smt002

Good to be back home,
Tad

Hey all,
I have not been on the site much lately and have just returned from Oceanside after losing
my Dad a week ago to complications from his chemo treatments.

Dad put up a great fight but the effects of the chemo took its toll on his 82 yr. old body.
Over the last 3 months his immune system became more and more compromised, needed 2 sets of blood transfusions for low white cell counts, lost  bowel and bladder control, numerous fevers, lost all appetite,
mental capacities declined, had frequent hallucinations and lost all strength. He was hospitalized on 2 separate occasions in the last 3 weeks. He managed to complete 4 of 6 planned chemo treatments. While in the hospital
last weekend the Dr.s told us (His 3 Sons) that his kidneys had failed and told us if he had dialisis he may only expect to last 1-2 more months. So we decided to not delay the inevitable and brought him home  Mon. evening
11/12 so he could be home when his time here came to an end.

My family (wife, daughter, son in law, and grandson) made the 10 hour drive from Redding on short notice to join me and be with him before his number was called. Once we got Dad home we asked the hospice nurse to delay giving him seditives until he had time with his entire family.  We told him how much we loved him and thanked him  for being a great Dad. He was even able to meet, see and touch his only great grandson
(my 4 mo. old grandson) which brought a smile to his face and tears to my eyes.

After we all had spent time with him and the seditives were administered, the end came quickly and painlessly and he passed away at 2:44 am on Tues. 11/13 with his 3 sons and my wife by his side.  We lost our Mom to cancer 6 years ago so now they are together again for eternity.

We love you Mom and Dad, glad you are reunitied!

Thanks all for your prayers and words of encouragement,

Tad
