I'd like to join you guys. This will be my first time kayak fishing at Monterey. I have had several rock fishing trips at Capitola and TC. Never fished salmon before.

It Kindof sounds like the bite has turned off out of Monterey... I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for reports, but if it's not looking good I may decide to fish elsewhere. I've got all weekend free, but I want to make it count!!!

It's not looking good for Saturday... Sounds like lots of skunkiness.

I think I'm going to either fish Muir or HMB on Saturday, and maybe Sunday, too, if I'm feeling spry enough.

Veterans Memorial Park, up the hill is the closest camping but with MOTO GP in town the camping is going to be crowded or FULL ! :smt044 Saddle Mountain ranch is about 10 miles away in Carmel Valley but will most likley be full as well.I think even hotel/motels will be very busy and pricey. :smt044 Good luck,   just a tip...

Thanks for the tip. I was planning to check out the Veterans camp if I headed down.  With the skunky reports, I opted to save money and gas... I think I'll be heading out to Muir.

My first post. Salmon are my preferred quarry as well. I have tried Muir twice this season with no luck. Heard of a couple hook ups near shore but mostly really slow with very few boats sticking around. Good to hear about the yak salmon up in Bodega, will have to head that way despite the sharks.

You will have a better chance up north here in Humboldt, but if you try trolling instead of mooching which can be done sleeping with a bell on the tip of your rod.  I pulled off a good size salmon today in Shelter Cove where the bite has been fairly tough lately due to the huge fleet of commerical boats fishing salmon in the area.  I got mine trolling and only because I was trolling.  Salmon dont come hunt you down.  You have to hunt them yourself.

I'ts good to hear how things are done in Humboldt ... but with all due respect, this isn't Humboldt.  good to know the bite is on up there and thanks for sharing the tips on how to troll Shelter Cove.

Final plan: I'll be fishing Half Moon Bay tomorrow morning. Parking at Pilar Point.

Anyone paddle out to the "Southeast Reef" I see on the NOAA charts? It looks to be about 1.5+ miles south of the harbor mouth, and looks especially fishy on the chart...

I'll be targeting rockfish and halis unless I see birds and bait...

Why do most of your posts about fishing in an area you have never fished make you sound like an ass? Oh yea, i forgot. You are Rob the fishing god. If you can troll 200' down efficiently, then come down and show us how. There are different ways to be effective in different areas, or have you not heard that?

Ok, I'm done.
