Going to event is more than just a fishing event , it is a great time to enjoy some of the best friends and food that I know of. It has been difficult to get a lot of ocean time this year and trueley enjoy going to an event in order to fish different areas and learn how to become a better fisherman from the conversations that I have. I have gained so much confidence from these events and try to pass on any thing I have learned to others. The events are a great place I can take the family and hope to see more families attend so I can keep the WAF point from depleting quickly.  :smt005 The boys just love these events and soon will be going out with me so I cannot wait and hope that these events continue. I see the events continue to grow and the popularity is only going up. It is becoming more competitive and must be handled in new ways in order to not allow cheating to enter these events. There has been some concerns with outcomes in past events that could have been tainted and we as a group need to come up with a more accurate way to prove ones catch if we really want to offer prizes to the champion fisherman. I look forward to each and every event I can attend and try to hit as many as possible.

FWIW - I attended three events this year that I didn't even bring my kayak to. That oughtta tell you something right there.

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

So-cal sucks in general, even good people I know who move there eventually become "So-cal"  if they don't get out after awhile.  Therefore I would not draw too many parallels with them.

Honestly I never intend to win anything and just enjoy fishing with a bunch of good folks.  I have watched contenders share advice/tackle with competitors, people trade items that have hugely different monetary value but the trade makes sense so it happens, and many more very cool things like that.

I didn't see a voting option for twice a month. I think that would be good during the 5-6 months of prime season and maybe 1 or less a month during the colder months. I think a diversity of location and species is the key. Cambria while not what I consider an NCKA event, is a long ways from Shelter Cove. Silver Lake is a long ways from ARW. Each is more likely to attract competitors from the local area than from 5-6 hours away. Species wise someone might want to show off their mad bassin skills, yet not have an interest in Halibut or Crabs.  For the WAF, I imagine we can convince our significant others into one multi-day fishing / camping trip and  one day trip tournament per month.

In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.

I can see both sides of this coin, the more events the more you get to pick and choose from but if they are scheduled too close together then you have to make a hard choice [ depending on your WAF point account ]. NCAK is a great organization, I enjoy the comradery and knowledge I have gained about kayak fishing every time out

wow i never even thought about it,all i do is look at the up coming events and decide to go or not.
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

As it should be.
I think a lot of factors go into the success or failure of the various events, the current economic status being one of the biggest (most of those bowing out of the sport seem to be for financial hardship), and travel expense often determines my fishing choices.
I think that a combination of one saltwater and one freshwater event per month would satisfy a lot of people's desires. For most that amounts to one event per month as the majority seem to be either fresh or salt oriented with a smaller percentage spending equal time on both.

Not all events have to be organized around a competition with prizes.
I have been involved in many large PB "fests" organized through other forums that were not based on a competition format, no prizes, just good fishing, great comraderie, food, wobbly pops and fun. Some have still involved sponsors in a different roll, putting on clinics, BBQs, bringing in special speakers, etc..

Pretty much what I was thinking. I would like to make one a month but its usually a ten hour drive for me.

As I see it there are 3300+  registered users. My rookie guess is less than ten percent are active users...if that many.

Depends on what you call "active".  761 unique members have logged in over the past week.

I think it's possible to have too many NCKA events. But I only see 2 NCKA events on that list: PIF and Albion. Everything else is an open event or an event from another site. They just happen to be events comprised mostly of NCKA participants (-:

Strictly speaking, only AOTY is technically an NCKA event.

So if all of those unique active members showed up at any one event at any given time it would be a madhouse.

An armada of kayaks. We could take over the SF BAY! Haha

Whats really neat is that most all of the events, including Albion, are benefits for those need help. Whether its a personal monetary benefit or to a cause or to help with local projects. This  is where we shine. We have some fun, win some prizes maybe. Its all a win-win for all of us.

Last year Albion was available to help two. ALL of the money went to those in need. If you were there and felt the emotion and the collective support and saw the food line, you know. See you soon.

I answered the survey "1 a month" but after reading some of the posts and giving it a little more thought, I think my answer was really "how many events I might attend".  I tend to agree with Craig and the others that as many as members want to put on is really the right answer.  The more there are, the more choices we get to make.  Being retired, I have lots of opportunities to fish and being a Loose Screw, many of our hook ups are really like an event except there are no prizes other than the fun and friendship of the group.  The "Screws" also have social (non-fishing) hook ups which include our families.  If events subtract WAF points (and I'm not sure they do) the non-fishing events fill the bank.  I'm not sure there is too much of a good thing and NCKA events all qualify as a good thing.
