Not all events have to be organized around a competition with prizes.
I have been involved in many large PB "fests" organized through other forums that were not based on a competition format, no prizes, just good fishing, great comraderie, food, wobbly pops and fun

In the NCKA world, we call these Fish n' Chill events...

As many as people feel like putting on. Thats how many. What if I was to say, "gee Eric you should only do one event and give the rest of us a break." A 3 day event is much more than fishing. Its really getting connected with a lot of different folks on a more intimate level. We also get a chance to diversify and do other activities within the tournament itself.

Bottom line is go to the event you like to attend. Do a different one next year. Make an event of your own. Theres never enough camaraderie. No one can go to all of them unless your rich and single. This is nor cal. Socal has a limited venue. Mostly ocean events. We have a bunch of fresh, bay, ocean possibilities and the fun never stops up here. Ever.

This.

The events I will try to make it to every year are:
Gimme Shelter, Albion, BSS, FW at CL, FW @ Tiki, Red Barn (If they find as new location).   I also try to make other tournaments if they sound interesting, or fit my schedule.

I had a fantastic time at the Lost Coast Sonoma team tournament, and I like to be able to fish new waters at new venues with new people.  I say we should have as many tournaments as tournament organizers wish to have.  I will say that organizers should try to avoid scheduling 2 or more tournaments on the same weekend.

I also agree with Craig.

and I know how hard it is to put events together, so I would like to say thank you to Eric & all the people that organize & help to organize.

"THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!" :smt006

Mooch, I am glad to hear that. I guess that Craig has a heart after-all. How much did you get?

I believe you owe Craig an apology.

Don't really remember how much it was -  but I split it with Marv. Maybe Marv can chime in.

Just my opinion but,
That is a private matter between Craig, Joel, and Marv.
I believe it should be discussed through pm.

I read the opening page of the albion thread and saw nothing about where the proceeds are going. Maybe i missed it. I thought you were gonna  pocket all the proceeds from the shirts and entry fees and then ask the members to give more money to a raffle for mooch. I may be a fool but you will always be a consumate asshole.

I just thought that I would share Jacks latest message to me concerning Albion. This is just not right. Its inflammatory and a disgrace. Its not a private matter when another member is slammed and lied about on this forum. I work hard for Albion to be a sucess. Taking no profit for me at all.

I would rather not have a cap either on events. I agree with the concept with holding the amount of events that organizers can carry.
Speaking for myself I know I can only do as many as my schedule and family needs allow..so it's should be up to individuals to set the demand.

That said, I also agree with victor on that the sponsors may get burned out or may not be able to donate so generously so often.

I personally would rather see in lieu of a  "grand" prize for a single individual, more moderate prizes or gift certificates that more people can win or gain via a raffle..

Also, keeping a more moderate prize cache reduces the temptation for someone to be dishonest.  I know no one wants to contemplate this, but it is easy for someone to game the system.
I would hate to see too fierce competition spoiling the great camaraderie that exists now.
Dave

Heres the attached registration form for anyone to see if they take the time to look. It clearly indicates where the money is going.

Craig,

Your reputation as a gracious tournament host and generous dude speaks for itself.

On another note (unrelated to Craig and Albion), I don't see any problems with a tournament organizer profiting from a successful tournament.  Tournaments are a pain in the butt to organize, which is why I (and many others) prefer to fish them rather than run them.  I have nothing but appreciation for anyone who is willing to put in the hard work so that others can have a good time.  Donating event proceeds is a big bonus, but it is by no means the deciding factor in whether I will participate in a given event.

Organizers like Craig, Eric S., Eric K., Joe, Ricci and Gary (sorry if I forgot anyone) help make NCKA the flippin cool club that it is. Let's not bust their balls about their events.

Sorry to have this go in the direction that it is going,
I started this topic because it was brought to my attention that some anglers were feeling like they had to miss some great events because they had to pick and choose. My concern was that with people having to choose, the attendance at some great events (Albion, GS, PIF etc. ) might not be as high as it should be. These are great events and I whish I had a better oppertunity to attend them. My biggest concern was that maybe my events were taking away from these. I started the series as a way to give back to the kayak community and to introduce others to the sport I enjoy so much. It bothers me terrably to think that these events could be thought of as a way to scam our friends and family. The people who put on these events spend countless hours to bring a quality event for all to enjoy. If there is a fee it is only to help cover the costs involved, and I don't think any of these gentlemen could ever take a donation for a friend in need and put it in their own pocket.
Not trying to be long winded, but if there is ever a question about the integrity of any event, I can assure you that NCKA DOES NOT take kindly to SCAMS

With all this said,
Let's finish this discussion about what a healthy diet of events would be, and not the integrity of the organizers.

Eric,

I don't think your events take away from other events.  It seems to me like attendance at GS was higher than previous years.  I imagine that PIF and Albion will be the same.
