I ask this question because I would hate to see the same thing happen here that happened in So-Cal. The sport seemed to explode in the south, Events attracted anglers by the hundreds, Clubs and Sponsors fueled the fire to the point of implosion. Now it seems like many have lost intrest in the So-Cal events which has shown dwindling numbers over the past few years. I started thinking about this as I tried to figure out which events to attend in the next few months and couldn't believe that there are at least 8 events in the next 3 months. It appears that without a gas sponsor many would have a hard time getting to most events and will have to start to pick and choose where and when to go.

UPCOMMING EVENTS:
1. July 21 = P.I.F.
2. August 5 = M.B.K.
3. August 10, 11, 12 = Albion
4. August  26 = F.W. Silver Lake
5. September 22 = Cambria Slam Down
6. October 13 = T.R.W.
7. October 21 = F.W. Tiki
8. October 27 = RTM Fall Classic

Is this really good? .... Or disaster in the making?
Can your WAF really afford to hit all the events? .... Which will you miss?

What would be a healthy diet of events for 2013?
Maybe we should start combining our efforts and limit it to 1 per month?

Let me hear your thoughts .... post up

I think it is a good thing. Not everyone can make it to every even. So it gives people a chance to get out and experience one. One or two a month does sound ok though

I think 1 a month is good for me and that doesn't count the LS hook-ups and others  :smt002

I tend to stay close to home, but enjoy the camaraderie that goes with group events.  Been meaning to branch out more in the coming years.

I think there are too many events right now.
Four a year sounds about right, but not more than 5.
Could you imagine how burnt out Hot August Nights would be if they held it every other month??
Those really feeling the need to be in a tournament could always have a local hook up.
We had a great hook up at Ocean Cove this year...top notch... and there were no prizes to be had, no competition, just fun. Everyone had a blast. We could have done an MBF but it was never even brought up.
And I don't think a kayak should be the big prize every time either.
Everyone who enters is already on a kayak, so I think cash prizes are best.
That way those lucky (skillful) enough can buy what they really need. Fish finder, new rod and reel, rod holders, a pfd. Whatever they needed they could get with the money they won. If they buy a kayak, cool.

Tote and Yakhopper make good points about the frequency and rate of events. I am just not that into competitive events, but I love the camaraderie, support, and advice I get from members of this great group. Three or four events per year would work fine for me, along with all the other casual hookups and reports.

+1 Just because I can't make them all doesn't mean I don't want to!!! With school and work I don't get to get out that offen, but with a scheduled event, I make plans for it.

As many as people feel like putting on. Thats how many. What if I was to say, "gee Eric you should only do one event and give the rest of us a break." A 3 day event is much more than fishing. Its really getting connected with a lot of different folks on a more intimate level. We also get a chance to diversify and do other activities within the tournament itself.

Bottom line is go to the event you like to attend. Do a different one next year. Make an event of your own. Theres never enough camaraderie. No one can go to all of them unless your rich and single. This is nor cal. Socal has a limited venue. Mostly ocean events. We have a bunch of fresh, bay, ocean possibilities and the fun never stops up here. Ever.

Thanks for the replies,
I have many thoughts about this, but keep remembering the old saying,

I really hope this is just an old saying

The only thing I can really see that would be a problem with so many events is that the sponsors might get overworked. I can only imagine that there is a cut off with how much they can donate to each event. It was great that Crabfest was in January because there were no other events that month. I think October looks crazy with all the events going on and know that I probably won't be able to attend all.

This is a hard one. I'm personally passionate about putting on events and I really hope to put on a large bass event here in the Delta. I would hate to see someones enthusiasm by curved by a limit placed on number of events. This does make me want to think about other ways to bring people together besides tournaments. Something like a kayak fishing expo, or multi day camping/ kayaking trip in the Delta. I've only been to a few events, but it's really neat to see people come together the way Nor Cal does.

As I see it there are 3300+  registered users. My rookie guess is less than ten percent are active users...if that many. We are spread out all over northern and what I call central California (anything south of the Golden Gate   :smt003). To put a limit on the number/location of events would hurt everyone. Let the ones that fall out of favor go by the wayside and the ones that flourish continue. If a new event pops up and draws a large gathering....the people have spoken. Prizes?.....who really plans on going to an event with the sole purpose of winning a kayak or any other cool gear. Just my 2 cents...
