Shark Shield lowered the retail price to $590.00 from $700.00

Many readers know I've been plugging Shark Shield for several years.  I wasn't sold when first introduced to it about 10 years ago but after lots of research and meeting a few guys who survived being ripped in half by white sharks and only returned to their ocean pursuits because of this technology, I truly believe in the product.

About a year ago, Shark Shield re-organized and lowered the MSRP to $590.00 from $700.00.  That doesn't make it very affordable for us little dealers and I expect you'll see Shark Shield, like most marine electronics, only in the box stores once it catches on.  In the meantime, I truly appreciate your patronage.

I have always promoted my endorsement of this product for "peace of mind", never as fear of sharks.  I was so offended years back when a previous manager (since relieved) wanted to know why I wasn't making sales based on a recent shark fatality here in California (what could I say, "it's different in California"?).   In Australia, when somebody gets hit by a shark (or worse), they often sell so many Shark Shields it's hard for us to get them here until factory production catches up.  That's always amazed me like a phenomenon.  That's never been the case in the U.S., Shark Shield sales generated by an incident, until today.  Lots of calls.

Please let me know if you are interested in or have questions about this product.  They seem to last a long time and mine has taken a beating.  I'm on my first "Freedom 7" unit for 5 years now.  The warranty is 12 months.  I'm told you can replace the battery.   Units can be shipped direct from the distributor in So Cal if I run out here in Occidental.  Generally, it's 3-5 days delivery either way within California.

I'm confused, are you saying you are no longer offended by promoting a product based on an incident,  or it was the severity of the incident that offended?

Do you think we can get a discount on a group buy?

Hi Spike, I do have a question.  I would have PM'd but that option is not available (sorry, just realized I can).  I have the "Freedom 7" and am a little concerned about battery life limitations. The unit purports to a have a 7-hour battery life but I've found that after about 4.5 hours, the unit starts beeping as though it's reaching the end of its charge.  I've always rinsed and fully charged the unit after use.  It's about one month old.  Any thoughts on this?

Peace of mind is worth 500. I'm down with the group discount (if there is one).

Is there a way to hook it up to an external battery or how easy is it to replace the battery otw? Would you be able to sell the batteries too?

I assume mine lasts for 6+ hours and would like to extend the time vs trying to save some juice for the end of the day.

Speaking for the "Freedom 7", The battery is encased so switching out isn't an option.  The company sight indicates no option for an external power source.

Spike...what say you?

I would send it in before your warranty runs out. I sent my first SS in after it stopped working and they said that there is not a repair option. Unfortunately I was off warranty and all they could offer me is a 10% discount off a new one. I turn mine off when I get to 60 FOW unless there seals around.

Spike, do you know where to get battery replacement? Mines down to around 6 hrs.
I spoke to the guys at ss in oz 6 years ago about powering externally. There was no such solution at the time..

Scott, that's unfortunate that they wouldn't stand behind their product. You'd think that they would want to take it back to determine what was wrong with it.

I was thinking of rigging something up in a dry bag to re-charging it when there are PB/yakers around. Not sure if it's possible to use it while re-charging (making sure that the main unit is dry of course).

I think you could recharge OTW using another battery or solar array but the SS would be off-line during the recharge. There are power inverters made to convert DC to AC. 6 hours is all I get from my SS at best so if I am on a long mission, I turn it off when the shark risk decreases.  :smt005 Who am I kidding.
