touchy subject but here's my 2 cents. At this point, I could care less about people drinking and fishing anymore. We are all adults and should be smart enough to know when the drinking should stop.

My biggest concern is that once you put someone elses life in danger because of your drunken state, then it becomes a problem with me.

Certainly wouldn't want to find out, but I would imagine so.  If not they could get you for public intoxication, lesser consequences but again nothing worth messing with.

Some places don't allow alchohol if that's the case then it would be illegal. But mooch said it pretty good, more of a sefty issue than a legality to us.
IMO unless he sees you doin something terribly stupid a sherriff would rather not bother with a kayaker, dfg could be a different story though.
All that being said I'm not legally old enough to "buy" alchohol so I've had litte experience with this situation

If I had to rescue your drunken ass out on the water... You might wake up somewhere embarrassing and there is always the monkey eel pose...  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 With all the Jokers in our group it wouldn't be pretty. Funny as hell but not something you could come away from with your dignity intact :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 Blasted in camp is ok by me as long as your friendly that way. But again there is that joker thing out there... :smt005
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Not a DUI, its a BUI  :smt002  And according to this site: http://www.gotadui.com/articles/boating_under_influence.htm

Quote
Boating Under the Influence (BUI)

Boating under the influence (BUI) in California is a serious offense, one that can be as serious as Driving Under the Influence. Boating under the influence (BUI) is precisely what it sounds like. It is operating a watercraft when you are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. In a boating under the influence (BUI) case, watercrafts are considered anything that carries or transports people on water, including water skis. But things that are propelled by water alone, such as kayaks, are immune from boating under the influence (BUI) laws in California.

I've never seen anyone out there getting plastered and having to be rescued.  Most guys drink a beer or two and enjoy the time on the water.  I occasionally find these guys and bumm a beer or two  :smt044

Ya, I used to bring a whole icechest with me OTW. But that's just impractical. Now I only bring 1 or 2 beers in case I need to celebrate after catching an actual fish.

I too enjoy a beer or two on the water, but being drunk out there is needlessly playing with your life.

As a guy who puts on an event, I trust all the participants to use their best judgement for the entire weekend.  If someone were drunk on the water during the event I'd take steps to ban them from future participation.  If someone were drunk on the water during the event weekend I'd also take action because that type of behavior would reflect very poorly on our group.  I'm not out there with a breathalizer though...

Use your best judgement and don't get drunk on the water.   :smt001

I think we're ok.  But one could be arrested for drunk in public, I imagine, if they were making a scene.
