You should lighten up Glen. This is Victors and Headwaters event. Dan at Headwaters has been more than gracious to all at NCKA. Offering deep discounts and support to all kayak anglers. If I lived closer to your shop Dan I would be one of your biggest supporters.  Dan has given reviews that are very informative and right on. Hes offering a surf seminar at Crabfest. Its not Headwaters fault that this dude decided to write his article. In fact the more support the event gets the more sponsors note it. You know that. Plus for your information there were sponsors at Albion last year. Everybody there.

Sorry Craig & Jim... I see it differently. I see this as Headwaters using this as a platform to promote his business only; he's involvement should have been limited to the donation and visual/verbal promotion of his support. I just hope he makes things right and give credit where credit is due....

Just like you were solely incharge of all aspects with regards to your events, so should it have been Victor. If you did have sponsors at your event, there visibility was minimal...

I don't see what the big deal is either. Dan said the dude didn't get all the scoop. I still plan on having fun this weekend. The weather is supposed to be nice. :flower: :love9: :cowboy_cool:

When I first met Victor, this was all he talked about doing. Now someone has all but stolen his dream and claimed for there own. That's what's urking me off.... But out of respect for Victor, I will leave it alone for now.... I have said my peace...

And, I really hope everyone has a great time at this event and the pre-parties and after-parties!!! I wish I could be there to enjoy the festivities.... Have a great one!!!

You are so out of line its not funny. You want to run an event.................. do it. Then you can run it however you want to. I encouraged all sponsors of Albion to attend and to promote their business through the event name. I send each sponsor no matter how small a detailed report of the event complete with pictures for their use however they see fit. If it wasnt for businesses sponsoring events( AOTY is a good example) there really wouldnt be much interest. Then it would be  just a hook -up. Dan has spent time and so has Victor. Dont trash Dan or his business at all. Your opinion seems to be totally your own. Have fun with it. At all events that are tournaments, you have seen all the banners, right? The schwag handed out? Dont you shamelessly promote certain products everytime you post a kayak rigging?  Im getting a bit long on this but you struck a chord.

Sorry Dan that negativity headed your way on this thread. I want you to know that personally I appreciate all you have done for the people here and keeping us up to date on product and reviews. I only wish I knew as much about paddling as you do. Thanks. Craig

After looking at a few article and another by myoutdoor buddy I notice that NCKA is not mention. Maybe we can have polepole chime in on this.

Here is an article from myoutdoor buddy regarding GMS.

http://www.myoutdoorbuddy.com/fishing_report.php?fishing=3425

I haven't yet read the OutdoorBuddy article on Crab Fest and will do that.  Wanted to say though that I felt OutdoorBuddy's article on GS5 was right on.  I wasn't looking for any promotion; I didn't feel that NCKA had to have promotion (although I know I gave the info that the event is based on NCKA and am always proud of that); and I don't think I would've cared if a major sponsor got involved to the level that Dan obviously is and then got some press for it.  My motivation is to keep my event pure and fun.  Pure for me right now equals only having registration for the event available on NCKA, and fun equals not caring too much if there is promotion outside of my immediate focus - if cajun ended up in an article talking about GS6 and was illuminated as the force behind the prize pool for 3 years running I'd be happy (go ahead on it, Greg   :smt008).  The bottom line for me is that if people want in my tournament they have to buy into what NCKA has to offer - and that, namely, is a group mentality that doesn't focus on negative crap but actually snuffs it out with a positive vibe.   :smt001

Is it an NCKA event that's sponsored by Headwaters? If so, the writer just needs to amend his article to acknowledge NCKA and Victor as the event organizers (and visit the site for more info).
I noticed there's also an article about a kayak-in camping trip to Englebright on Feb 10. Glad I read it because now I'm interested in going. (-:

Lot's of love to those of you that run tourneys and those of you that sponsor them.  You won't see me getting bent out of shape over the perception of needing kudos.  You won't see me getting bent out of shape about non-official NCKA events using NCKA as a platform for promotion.  That's not what NCKA is about.

I wish all my brothers promoting the sport all the best and offer you whatever assistance I can to make your events and promotions a success.  If you mention NCKA in any press, that would be great.  If it somehow got missed, please consider it the next time.

Show me where it says that this is also Victor's event? This is the calendar of events on Headwater's site; doesn't mention Victor's name at all..... of course if the newspapers read this, they would think the samething....

Even the "Kayak Fishing Resource" section list the email contact as "Headwater..."; not Victor's

Well... at lease they displayed the NCKA logo.....

+1 on that Allen. It's all one family in kayak fishing. I was down at Mission Bay a week ago and bought some stuff at OEX. I was talking to the owner and he mentioned he had sent some stuff up to Ricci for the Salmon Slam and wished me luck. I thanked him. Organizers and sponsors both need to be acknowledged for their contributions. Whether NCKA is acknowledged is not important. As Bob Dylan said "Don't think twice, it's all right."

Neither are NCKA events nor are either sponsored by NCKA; although without NCKA members attending I am sure the turnout would be next to zilch.

No doubt there.

Did they "use" NCKA? I think so  :smt011 And there was really no mention of the NCKA community itself. Perhaps a little introduction as to what our club is all about. Nah, we don't really matter that much

AND....

Do a better job giving proper credit to those who really deserve it.....in this case, the participants themselves. How about this:

"Thank you NCKA members for supporting the 2012 Doran Crabfest"

You're reading too much into my statement Mooch.  I wasn't implying anyone "used" NCKA, not in a negative way at least.

Moving along ... who really cares?  If someone happened to read that article and showed up at the event, they'd immediately know that vwool was running the show, that Headwaters was supporting it, and that NCKA was participating.  And you guys would offer that guy a plate of food, stuff him beyond belief, and welcome him into our little corner of the world.  Some things will never change ...

FWIW,
The Kayak events should never be considered a popularity contest. Events should be to promote the fellowship of kayak anglers and encourage others to join the fun.
With that said,
It should also be considered proper edicate to get proper info from the "Main Organizer" before printing any advertisement. To do any less is just poor reporting and should be under question from the publisher.
I know there is no such thing as bad publicity, but there is such a thing as BAD EDICATE!

Thank You VWOOL for organizing the 2012 Doran Crabfest

See Ya Soon,
Eric / Yakhopper
