Thanks for all the time and effort sorting this out fellas, I like the new point system, looks like it will be an exciting year!

I always thought it would be cool to have a "Rookie of the Year" award to the top points earner of a newcomer to AOTY, nothing  big, like a hat or sweatshirt for braggin' rights maybe.

The 2012 AOTY site is now active.  Pardon the banner still saying 2011.  That's the last thing that needs updating.

Allen, once people sign up for AOTY how long will it take for their names to show up on the list or is there something they need to do first?

I have gotten a few PMs and figured if some folks asked the question, there might be more out there wondering the same thing.

Thanks again for all your (and the AOTY committee's) hard work...I really appreciate it.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

AOTY should be up to date.  If you're account is not active, let me know and I'll make it right.  There may be a few stragglers that didn't have an AOTY account when they paid, and I should have sent email to them.

The AOTY Committee wanted to use this as an example of an entry that is acceptable.  The fish is in a natural position with the mouth slightly ajar.  If we were to put this on a scale of "acceptability", it is near the limits.  Thanks Craig for being the AOTY posterboy for the day.

I'm still wondering about the reason behind this rule change:

C. The "sturgeon measurement rule" was removed.  Sturgeon are now held to same standard as all the other species.

Not that there is anything wrong with it.  Just means to me that if I am to target sturgeon this year, that I would have to take em' home for a proper measurement, and kind of cancel out the CPR option IMO.  I think that only a couple sturgeon were caught last year, so not sure why there was a need to change it.

Al - we discussed this issue and decided that sturgeon needed to be accurately measured to be included because of: (1) OTW measurements of them can be are very inaccurate; and (2) given how close the competition has been many years, accurate measurements are required to minimize controversy.  We discussed whether this might lead to increased numbers of sturgeon being kept but decided because the overall number of sturgeon entered in AOTY is lower now with the 20 target species (e.g., one entered in 2011) that this might not be a significant issue.  We identified that we should monitor over the next year or two to see if there might be an issue.

Thanks John, that does sound appropriate then.  Especially since I now know that half a point can make or break you  :smt044  I

Yeah Al, it's almost unbelievable to think that across the whole year of fishing that 10th and 11th place were separated by 1/4 of one point.  Crazy.

The fish is upside down, so it doesn't count.

Isn't that a picture from the same guy that gave me some greif about a Crappie with the same mouth position a couple years ago :smt044 :smt044 :smt044
I guess It's true that sometimes the mouth just doesn't close naturally.

At least you can see the mouth in my LMB pic.  :smt006 :smt044When the rules were mouth closed period it was alot easier. Thats what the rules were two years ago Eric. The rules this year say mouth pinched or forced open will be immediate DQed. Please make the AOTY boards job easier.
