Thanks to all for your service, making it so the "rest of us" can enjoy things like kayak fishing! :smt001  I had a lot of peer pressure in my family to join, and I was too busy not giving a SH#* about what they wanted, I was still a boy, and looking back I regret not enlisting.  My grandfather was  a full bird colonel in the air force, flew B 24's over europe during WW2 and was a real son of a bitch.  He kick my dad out of the house at 17 and he enlisted in the AF too, wanted to fly but he had bad vision, ended up in communications in alaska for 8 years.  My dad's dream was for me to fly, and now that it's too late :smt010 I really regret it.  I had family that fought on both sides of the civil war, I was the first man on my dad's side not to enlist, I broke a tradition and I dont know if my Grandpa ever forgave me for it....I had a lot of friends join up,right after 9/11.  Some of them didn't come back so good, :smt009 some of em didn't come back at all :smt010 They are all among my most respected friends.  Thanks to all the vets! Good thread Mooch!

John, I feel your pain. My dad was trained as a fighter pilot reserve in the Philippines during the Korean War. But the U.S. never called him in for active duty and ended up as a Capt. flying for the Philippine Air Lines. I don't think I could have ever followed his footsteps as a pilot but I wanted to serve just like he did. Unfortunately my knees (after high school) were not in shape for the military.

Many thanks to those who served and continue to serve  :worship :salut: :salut:

2000-2006 USMC. Most of my time was in the reserves. Mobilized in '03 and did time at Pendleton. Served with a recon unit when it was in Reno and a Motor T unit in Sac. Good times,  bad times, and everything in between - but wouldn't change a thing.

The thing that bothered me, and still bothers me about the military is the pay. That's some bullshit.

Yeah Jeff, but what about all that free room and board!
Plus all the abuse you can take, and more!
Then you get out and...

Seriously, you know we all did it cause we felt we had to, for our forefathers, and our fellow Americans.
It didn't matter what your political background was, or what your economic status was, you just know you owed the country that you loved...
And still love despite all the rough spots!
Love it or leave it.
It's all about love.

There are many more here, maybe too modest to post.  I won't name names...  but much respect to all who have served, here and abroad...  you know who you are.
