Not me exactly, but I'd like to mention my Dad, retired USMC.  15 months Radio Operator school.  First deployment was to Palestine for peace keeping in the late 1940's.  He keeps talking about how beautiful the area was back them.  He also observed several nasty encounters between the Israeli's and Arabs.

Deployed to the Korean war and lived through several major battles.  He never talks too much about what he saw there.
He did mention always sleeping with at .38 caliber inside his sleeping bag.  It came handy when infiltrators got past their sentries and he shot one them (through his sleeping bag) seconds before this guy was gonna do him with a bayonet.

Joined in 2005 in the Army Reserves. Helped with lodging of victims of hurricane Katrina. Got re-classed and sent to Iraq in 2006 and 2007. Met some really cool guys in the 20th Special Forces. Came home and went to the Army National Guard to go into SF. Went through training and could not get my clearance. Got married and moved to California in 2009. I was slated to go to Afghanistan January 2012 but did not resign my contract so I got kicked off the deployment. I am out in March 2013.

The fighting 5th is the most highly decorated unit in all the armed services, we spearheaded the Iraq assault in 1990 and 2003. Great to be apart of the regiment. I miss it alot . Once a Marine always a Marine.

Marvin - My dad was also stationed in Pleiku during one of his tours. Not sure what years he was there, though.

U.S Army - 1972,  Ft. Ord, Ca and Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md.  No Combat.  I was one of the lucky ones who got to stay in the states.  Still did a lot to support the cause but stateside.

Edgewood Arsenal is where they used to do a lot of army research and nerve gas experiments.  I spent a few days there too.

1993-1999, US Marines, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, AZ; USS Essex; USS Peleliu; and USS Tarawa. I like WestPacs and kept volunteering to go overseas every chance I got. I basically spent two years of the six I was in living aboard an amphib somewhere overseas.

I was with VMA-214, the Blacksheep Squadron (http://www.3maw.usmc.mil/external/3dmaw/mag13/vma214/). Yes, the same Blacksheep Squadron founded by Pappy Boyington, which was also the basis for the TV show Bah Bah Blacksheep.
I was an airframer, which meant I did hydraulics, sheet metal and composites for Harrier Jump Jets (AV-8B)
Good times  :smt003
