When you say the parking lot by hmbk do you mean the one with a slop right across the street?  Last year I thought I saw a sign saying no over night camping. I just want to make sure... Don't want to down a few beer then get kicked out.  :smt003

If I'm off work and can make it. I'll be there Fri with a portble gas grill n some stuff to grill also.  Oh and beer!

You can camp at the main parking lot - you just can't pitch a tent but you can sleep inside your vehicle. There is a self pay station at the launch ramp or you can go directly to the Harbor Office and pay there.

Be sure to tell and ask the harbor master that you've got a kayak and will be sleeping in your car (if that's what your planning on doing). Last year I was talking with him and mentioned those things and he said I didn't have to pay to sleep in my car. Never hurts to ask, you might just save a few bucks.

Crabbing really catches my interest.  Reading up - seeing what I need in hopes to join in.

What's your preferred pot size; 24x24 or 32x24?

Looks like I can make it early Saturday (maybe friday night too). Never fished HMB.
Will bring propane,  burner and pot. Found some of last years squid, some old meatballs and chicken nuggets. Soaking them in bacon grease to re-freeze. I think crabs will eat anything. Will bring 3 traps.

See ya,
PaulR

You best bet is to tent camp at Half Moon Bay State Beach. Then make a 10 minute drive to the HMB Harbor in the morning. Launching your kayak at HMB State Beach is not recommended. But it's a good place to cast out a crab snare when conditions permit.

Good luck on that  :smt009  I was looking at reservations 3 months ago and they were all booked up!   Except for the site I was able to get on Friday night  :smt044  Just going to head home after crabbing since I couldn't get a second night.

Pillar Point Harbor allows you to dry camp (no tents) in there parking lot; you just need to pay either at the launch ramp or at the Harbor Master's office.

However, it should start to look like a zoo in the lot with all the commies working on there gear....

Maybe someone  of great influence (named: Mooch) can call  HMB Kayak to see if we can set up by them for the weekend...
