Yesterday, I was waiting in line at my bank - wearing my Albion sweater and the guy behind me asked how the fishing was. I just said the weather was unfavorable but there were some good fish caught. He then said that his son caught a baby GWS while fishing for stripers in Pacifica  :smt104 I thought he was full of shit till I googled it today.....

Ya, that's bulls**t. Supposedly he found it floundering in the surf and just picked it up for a picture.

Even if it is not a GWS this clown should still be fined for handling what he thought was a GWS.

now that sounds more plausible than "snagging" it. they show up somewhere around here each season, and everyone gets GWS fever. A 8 footer jumped almost clear from the water near the SC Mile buoy about a month back. I take it as a good sign, since they are called salmon sharks for a reason :smt003

"A spokeswoman for the California Department of Fish and Game confirmed that great white sharks do in fact live and swim along the coast and could make it to the shoreline looking for fish to eat."

Stop the presses!!  That's outrageous

Yup, it's been confirmed.
Some guy found a dying salmon shark and posed with it because he thought it was a baby GWS. And then claimed he caught & released it.
A friend of mine said he saw the whole thing & the dead shark washed up next to him an hour later.

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I wonder why it died and whether this guy picking it up and posing with it made any difference.

The joke's on this guy now that everyone knows he made up a story about catching it when scores of witnesses are saying otherwise.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

I fished with that guy from the surf about a week after it happened and he didnt really seem like the kinda person who would find a dead shark then lie about catching it. Either way definatly an interesting fish to be found in the surf
