Going down after work and since they want some big bucks for letting my dog Tessa stay at a motel we are going to sleep in the lot at MBK. Anyone else camping around there or know of a cheap motel that allows nice pit bulls? hahah :smt006

Yes, I believe MBK is cool about sleeping in your car by their building. I seem to recall some people sleeping there overnight last year for some event or another...
I'm still walking, so I'm sure that I can dance...

Don't think that its really up to MBK, as its city land they are on.  Yes, we have slept there in the past for the MBK fishing tournament, but don't know that it's actually allowed or anything.

Veterans Memorial is just up the hill right there, and you can camp there (25bucks I think).  They have bathrooms, hot showers, and a park for the dog to run around.

Looking at the Parking Website for Monterey:  http://www.monterey.org/en-us/departments/parking/publicparkinggarageslots.aspx

Says this for RV's:  Waterfront Area Lots Maximize
Waterfront Attendant Lot #1
Located between Washington Street and Fisherman's Wharf. Best parking for Fisherman's Wharf, the Harbor/Marina and the Coastal Trail. RV parking available, 25' maximum length. Tour Bus Parking with passengers, loading zone provided. Hourly parking with an attendant, $1.00 per half-hour or fraction thereof, $15 maximum per day, Visa, MasterCard and American Express accepted. 479 Spaces.

And for the area by MBK:

Municipal Wharf II -
Best parking for Municipal Wharf II, the Marina and the Monterey Beach. Metered parking, $1.50 per hour. Change machine available in adjacent Marina Parking Lot. Enforced everyday 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. 129 Spaces.

So, maybe they just leave you alone after 8PM? :)

+1  Me and Reelknots have stayed there and it's not bad.  Very close to MBK.

There's a couple homeless camps right there on the beach next to our BBQ area. The trick is to blend in. So you just have to try to look like a hobo, Craig. You already have the dog.  :smt044

Kidding aside, we're not really allowed to camp in the parking lot at MBK. In the past (night before the MBK Tourney) they agreed not to call the cops if we slept in our cars (or some kind of self-contained manner). Perhaps they will be open to that option again. But it's really the city's lot, so I'd suggest looking into Al's link if you really want to sleep down there. I would strongly suggest Veterans Memorial Park over sleeping in a parking lot.

How about dogs the beach? I don't really want to leave the dogs in the car or motorhome.

Dogs are allowed on the beach on a leash, but not in the BBQ area (lame rule but it won't be a problem). It's all just one big sandy beach area.
