Got my first Ling of 2011 and then some!

Paddled out to new territory in beautiful conditions with Hotplate and boogieboardsteve.

Have been hunting hard since April 1st and finally found my Ling...he was just laying there waiting for me!! 

A beautiful meaty 30 incher!! 

Then...found a surprise in a cave about 40 feet down that bit me back!!

55 inches of angry Wolf Eel!!   

Later on had a Ling follow my gun all the way up, but my safety was on, and then he skeedaddled!!   

Finished the day with some hook and line fishing with the boys, and then a great beach session with family and friends!!

Doesn't get much better!!

+1 dang.... I was suppose to be there on sunday...    But then again... Finally got my yak pimped, so now I will be ready to throw a big ling in storage. LOL

Awesome Report Jim! I bet the hook and line fishing was kinda boring after doing some hand to hand with a wolf eel in a cave at 40'.

Really, congrats on the ling and the wolf eel.  I bet the head would make great soup as it probably has a ton of gelatin in it.

Froze the head, and the Ling head to bring to Ana's grandma next weekend for her to make soup!! The eel head looked and felt super gelatinous and meaty...the teeth on that booger were crazy!! It drew blood when it bit down on my hand and the whole knuckle/finger are sore and swollen...hope they don't have rabies or nothing!!

 

Also froze the carcass cuz Ana read online how to boil it to make a sauce to put on the eel??

Gonna have some friends over tonight to eat a nice chunk of eel and Ling tonight and the rockies, and the rest was vacuum sealed and frozen to bring down to Ana's family for Mothers' day weekend....gotta boost that WAF account when I can!!

So we get out to the new spot and Jim does the first dive, so I ask him how deep was it and he says about 25 ft. So I breath up and swim down, shoot a blue  and didn't seem to far, on the way up is when I notice it is a long way up. Get to the surface and look at my watch and find out 42 ft. 45 seconds. Look forward  to diving with you and Daryl again.

Jim, that is an awesome video!  You should send it in to GoPro!  Did you know it was a Wolf Eel when you saw it?  Or did you think it was a Monkey Face?  So awesome man, I'm stoked for you. 

After talking with Darrel and seeing what a beast you are, I think I'm going to cross over into a guns and put down the polespear for a while.  Cant wait to get out there with you man, see ya at GS5 if not sooner.
