How secret is your "secret" spot?

if you are posting pics from a secret spot, remember that most camera phones have a gps...that gets carried over to your pics...go too far with where that spot might be and you might get called out....

So, this'll work for camera phones. And the newer camera that have GPS feature (like the Optio WG-1 GPS). Steve, what software do you use to extract that meta data? I've got PS 11.0.2 at work. OK time to play around with some camera pics lol...

the meta data is actually encoded in the jpeg when you take the photo. THere's much more- like what type of camera, fstop, etc...

nearly any decent program will show the data in the photo's properties. Picasa is where this screen shot came from

It's called EXIF data...(excerpted and edited from EXIF.com)

EXIF is short for Exchangeable Image File, a format that is a standard for storing interchange information in digital photography image files using JPEG compression. Almost all new digital cameras use the EXIF annotation, storing information on the image such as shutter speed, exposure compensation, F number, what metering system was used, if a flash was used, ISO number, date and time the image was taken, whitebalance, auxiliary lenses that were used and resolution. Some images may even store GPS information so you can easily see where the images were taken, most cameras that have that feature also allow turning location off.

For phones, I think depending on your model, carrier and/or plan, it may be a default setting to include location.

I hardly ever post pics because i'm a forgetful bastard and almost always leave the camera in the car. No secrets here...

But what if you don't have service in the area that your pic is because you have well ATT and it stinks in most remote areas. hehe will it still show the GPS spot and does it have to have a 3G network connection to work.
