NICE!  You can always count on a NCKA camera man when you need one.

I'm in if it comes together, I think amphibian aka Merv has just the organizational skill needed to set it up for Sunday May 15th at Shelter Cove.

I hope to see all you divers at:

Tino's Event in June second Saturday Manchester

Matt's event in August third Saturday Ocean Cove....the REAL OC!

Triton X in September third Saturday at Caspar.

Randy Fry in October second Saturday.

They are the 2011 events not to be missed!

All those comps/events sound awesome James....

I think it would be cool to have one here that lasted for an extended period of time (maybe from April 1st to November 30th) that would allow us all to hunt in different areas for different species and add up points and compete for prizes at the end.

Or not...I'm down for whatever!

Jim

Also, maybe the rockfish/perch species could be split up by species. because the main species targeted by diving up here would consist of:
-lingcod
-cabezon
-rockfish
-perch
-greenling
-halibut
-abalone
That's only 7, or 10 if you throw MFE, sheephead, and opaleye in there, though not as common.

I like the idea of splitting up the RF and perches and DEFINITELY adding in the MFPB!! :smt003

I'd be down for putting something informal together & even donating a prize or two from the garage.   :smt003

... per Jim's request, I won't even participate.   :smt005

Possible species:
1. Lingcod
2. Cabezon
3. Greenlings (kelp/rock)
4. Halibut
5. Sheephead
6. Monkeyface Prickleback
7. Opaleye
8. Abalone
--Rockfish
9. Grass
10. Kelp
11. Black and yellows
12. Blues
13. Blacks
14. Vermillion
15. Coppers/Gophers (don't see too many of these shot, though)
16. Olives
--Perch
17. Black
18. Striped
19. Pile
20. Rubberlip
That's 20. A lot of things to consider though.
Freediving only, I would assume.
Entrance fee?
Start date (in my opinion, fish must be shot after start to be legally entered)?
Should there be freshwater fish added (carp/suckers/squawfish are the only one's that come to mind)?
Maybe an overall big fish/ab category?

Bonus points for polespear...?  :smt002  :smt005

Should be a fun event regardless of how it turns out. Looking forward to it  :smt003

I agree with Rick on: free diving only, and that fish must be shot after start (so let's get a start date going soon!!  :smt044)!!

I would also say that fish taken kayak diving and shore diving should both count...I imagine there will be some discussion on this one though!!  :smt002

BigFish/BigAb category sounds great.

PoleSpear bonus...sure, how about an extra inch per fish??

I assume all fish entered need to have a Hawg Trough/measuring board shot similiar to AOTY for proof of length.

One other thing.....anybody who has been following the board knows how sensitive AOTY is right now...let's NOT let this get that way....my 2 cents only, but I think it would be great to keep this the light hearted, good natured, friendly comp....I don't think we need a committe or nothing, how about since fuzz is the mod of this section, his word is final. I have enough respect for him and his experience to go along with whatever he says....

good lord Jim "Reply #23 on: Today at 03:11:38 am »" Somebodies wife must be pregnant!
  Congrats by the way.
The only reason I am saying anything is I really want to start diving. BigJim makes some very valid points about keeping it simple. Using the 2 words "simple and competitive" in the same sentence is hard enough let alone "doing" it is a whole different ball game. Heed those words and plan carefully.
great idea and hope I can join you.

I agree with BigJim. I'm not sure how many other polespear guys there are out there, but I'm not too concerned about getting a bonus for it. I choose to use a polespear. And I totally agree about keeping this casual, I say keep the entrance fee low, and prizes can be donated by entrants. Ex. Fry pan, polespear, urchin nightlite, ect. Bragging rights is probably the biggest prize of all! And maybe the entrance fee could go towards a plaque for the winner. I'm cool with Fuzz being the final word. I think now we just need to find a way to "rank" the fish points wise. I'm also thinking maybe we should try to keep it simple as possible. Im not one for conflict and im bummed to see what has been going on with AOTY.  I like the idea of overall big fish and Ab. Rick, that's a great list.  Dont forget WSB and Wolf Eel!  I'm fine with yak and shore diving. Freedive only. I guess we could rank fish by how common they are, like perch being a low point scorer and something like Sheephead being high? We should do a dive/award ceremony on the last day of tournament in Big Sur :) since spearfishing is a year round activity I'm not worried about the start and stop date. This is going to be way cool. Keep the ideas coming fellas!

This sounds fun I would love to par take in this comp but I can not enter till july13th would that be an issue with you all ! it just means I have less time to dive and fish !  I all so would come up with some sort of donation and probaly could even get Bamboo reef of Rohnert park to donate as well.

I think that would be great Matt!!

As far as not entering until July...I can't imagine why that would not be OK, I think anybody should be able to join at anytime, they just can only enter fish into the comp after they have joined!
