a “red hot” salmon bite will all of the approximately 15 boats coming back to the cleaning station with limits of big fish averaging 8 to 15 and up to 32-pounds.
they hit doubles right off the bat near the Red Can which is one mile out from the harbor. The whole fleet stayed within sight of the Can, and all action was by trolling straight bait, hootchies, or watermelon Apex lures.
Cleanup, aisle number 2, in my pants!  :smt044 :smt007 :smt007 :smt007

Thanks for putting this thing* together Eric!
I'll be there Thursday night through Monday afternoon. There's still a good chance RF season will open 5/15. But...then again, there's also a good chance we'll see 10ft swells & 20kt wind....

Have not confirmed it but just heard this AM from a good source rock fish opens May 1st or 2nd at Shelter Cove.

Day before yesterday I went out and hooked a nice salmon on plastic just outside the red can.  My pole broke about 2' from the end soon as I pulled it out of my pole holder, before I tightened the drag (which was quite loose).

I was still able to get him to my yak after 3 or 4 runs, even grabbed his tail which was BIG.  I had not ben able to bring up my downrigger weight from 50' due to the broken pole requiring my full attention.  Anyway I tried to net him as he was right against my yak and could not reach back far enough to get my net over his head.  I was looking at him and sooo happy I finally had a great salmon.  He was 25 to 30# - REALLY.

Right at that moment he swam under me and took a loop around my downrigger line holding him right under me next thing I knew he was gone!  I felt like crying!  Conditions quickly went down hill soon after so I returned once again and no salmon yet - - - - But that is going to change soon.

Come on back down Eric, we'll have fresh wild salmon soon and finally looks like a good season ahead.

Torture!  It's torture I tell you!  Dan - I'm so sorry for your loss, and I admire you so much for the way you go for it.  I can't wait to get back on the water.  Sin Coast is right - we just need to hope for a calm and flat spell and we'll be good to go.  The news Dan brought about rockfish opening 5/1 is something I'd heard may happen.  It''s kind of a bummer for the tournee, but we'll just move forward as planned.   :smt001

No worries on the Express Mail, Glen - a postmark by 4/15 is fine.  Glad to hear you're out there recruiting.  :smt001

Sorry Eric, I will be fishing solo; he can't commit because of possible employment....

Then I win, probably.

Just dropped my check in the mail this morning.
