In my never ending fixation with RF lures. I was at Mel Cottons a few weeks back and ran into these odd sinkers. Not sure what they are used for (anyone know?) But as I looked at them the image of a squid mantle came into my head. So I picked up a few 5 oz models. At home I added some powder paint and the rigged them on some 80lb mono with a big ass octo hook and some bead spacers. The cool thing is the lead actually spins around the mono so I am hoping that will add some visual interest. We'll just have to wait and see.

I believe those sinkers were made specifically for surf fishermen. The sinker, when retrieved fast enough,  basically spins and keeps your bait rig from snagging on the bottom. I've seen many of these sinkers used in Hawaii.

Creative touch by the way!

Nice!  I like how you mix the colors together with the powder paint.  Adds that little bit of bling!  I have been looking at molds to make those little hootchies but they are some $.  I made a mold for the 4oz squid head lures.  I will bring you a bunch to work your magic on!

Bored much?  :smt005
I think these c/b productive lures, especially if you can figure a way to make them even noisier...maybe 2 beads between the lead and hoochie.
RF season opens May 1 in the Monterey area, May 14 in the North & Mendo area, June 1 in the SF area, and March 1 for Socal.

yes I am bored!!!!! Yeah I always have issues with a background the counter is to reflective, work bench is covered in paint, dried glue etc (makes for a busy back drop). I am gonna keep using the camo :smt002 The pic doesn't show it but there is a bit of play in the rigging. As you can see there is a bead on either end. I also added 5 beads inside the hoochie head. so we'll see what this bad boy does

Forget about the lures , I just want to know what you do to get all the free time!  :smt044
Nice job a on the lures. Wait till the boy is little bigger then you will find that time shrinking or he will want to help? daddy make them which usually means causing more trouble! Got 2 boys that just love to help daddy fix things or work on the boat.

EWB-

It is a sliding sinker

Sliding.  The arrow shaped variety is better than most because the bored hole is usually coated and smooth, preventing line fraying—something egg sinkers don’t do well at all.  This is a good sinker for live bait like shiner perch or bullheads.

BTW Great looking Lure, should work well for ocean trolling.
