we will keep the potato salad on ice. I may make the black bean salad also.

That's awesome!!!!

I'm trying to put the pressure on the VA to let me know what they are bringing food wise, but I really think it is going to be a mystery till they get there...

I did get 4 lbs of coffee from Pete's, I need to buy a BIG Coffee maker...

anybody coming that have thermoses to hold made coffee would be great...

20 bags of anchovies are waiting at Bay Tackle....

we still need 5/0 Hooks,....  ....  weights... extra poles...

I am guessing spinning set ups will be better right? I have three. (which I will bring)...Stipers right? I also have some hooks. They are a bit rusted (have been sitting in a tray) but they will do the trick. As for weights. What do we need?

Wow...    I really think this is going to shoot over 50 Wounded Warriors Attending...

YIKES!!!   This is going to be a ton of work at the event getting organized as to getting the Vets as to where and what they want to do...

were going to need meet and great people to first be sure waivers signed, and the organize what they would like to do, kayakfish, just kayak, power boat/pontoon boat or just hang on the shore to fish....

When they first come off the bus, they are a bit confused themselves on what they want to do or if they want to do anything at all...  we also may need to take people out in shifts....

good thing is we have a very nice place to hang, so it's going to be just fine...

More Volunteers are still welcome, this is going to be a Big event...

I am bringing a medium pot of chili for the dogs. I was thinking of bringing some chili mac since it was always one of my favorites from the mess hall, but I am not sure anyone liked it.  :smt005 Karen is also coming to help with the cooking. Molly is coming to clean up anything that is dropped on the ground.  :smt044

I don't fish bait so will need some tips. Do you drift or anchor?

Scott
Scott, More up against the bank then tie up. Cast into about 15 to 20 feet of water with bait and let it drop on it's own. Catch up to me when you get there. Bring large 5/0 hooks for those who want to fish for stripers/catfish. Frank

Thanks Frank, I am going to stalk you with my pontoon boat and spot jump you at valentine cove.  :smt005 Sounds like you are flylining the chovy? Maybe we should have a MBF, your pontoon boat against mine.  :smt005 :smt005

So how many people total are we talking about?

I wish I knew... but I think... alot....

I truly feel we are going to have over 50 Veteran participants, most likely more, some will come in buses, the other Half... will be driving themselves, with possible family...

so if we do the math from the last event with 17 vets, and we had somewhere around 70 people there.....

  Call in the Calvary....   :smt100 :smt102 :smt103 :smt104 :smt101

I'm guessing, somewhere over 100, maybe much more, 130ish????

we have a break from wildernesshunter who has been working in Grass Valley to get stuff and I believe has scored cases of power bars and wonder co has donated some pastries,

Thank You wilderness Hunter for working on this and Rancinrob for the pick up...

Back to what to do here Kayakjack...

I think stick with the plan, 10 cut up chickens and 4 tritips, somewhere around 100 hot dogs VA and GB2,  and 2 14lb Turkeys  Hojoman/Frankfishing...

Salsa, I'll get gobs of corn chips from trader joes tomorrow,

black bean salad... the bomb!!!

It's alot on you again...

Corn EWB and Lapuala, don't know how much, but have to deal with it there...

potato salad,  jedmo... Thanks...

med pot o chili, GB2 for Molly....  :grommit: :grommit:
 Sahara will be there too...

Coffee, I got and will get cream/sugar

From what the Counselors and Rec Therapist are saying,

the Vets are Stoked about coming ....

and if everyone coming chips in $5 to $10 bucks, should get us close,

I paid for the camping site today and it was just $58 bucks,

and again Mooch,  :smt018  I've got $200 bucks in the hands of EBRP, want it back!!!

EBRP has been great and they are in a wait and see how this works and the impact on the park with this event, so lets give em a show....

Thanks Again for what everyone is doing... I went big on this because of the resources we have with the NCKA interest high, kayak rental shop otw and the park  resources being what they are. I thought it also a Great way to get the Vetertan Service agencies to notice this program and start to establish a relationship on how we can make HOW successful.

I underestimated the food thing and we may be in for a big surprise and difficulty in managing this many people into kayaks with fishing gear. Not all will want to fish out of kayaks for sure, but we just have to flexable and go with the flow,,,

Most will not want to jump in and go anyway, but it will hit critical mass,

we'll do our best and just know that it will not be perfect...

but it will work and be appreciated...

  Thanks Again Everyone....    :smt006

Need plates, forks, spoons, knives, and napkins? Depending on how much potato salad Jedmo is bringing, I can bring up to three big coolers to shield the potato salad from the sun. I plan to take pictures. More pictures...more publicity for the future.

If you don't have enough kayaks or fishing gear, you will have to send the vets out in shifts. Are you having a volunteer kayak alongside each vet? Might be hard to do, if you get all the vets on the water at the same time.

This sounds good, but, I have already been told there are some Vets that do not want their picture taken... We also will have Active Duty personnel there too, Big Privacy issues here. My plan is to ID the Vets that do not want their pics taken, and I would ask before you click...

This stuff really gets complicated, most sign media releases and gladly pose for pictures... but ya have to be careful, especially with this event. We have agencies that I have had little or no contact with, and some are bringing some really serious PTSD pts. It should not be to hard to figure who does not want their picture taken and just use your good judgment...

on the other side, believe me, there will be some characters there too...

well aware, problem is... I have no idea whats going on with the Vets before they arrive, what the counselors have told they they are going to do for the day etc...

some just want to go out for the day with no intention of fishing or kayaking, that is why we are offering a wide variety of possibilities for the vets and their families...

It's best to just make ourselves available and they will come to us to tell us what they want to do,  we just have to be ready and prepared...

Were building our relationship with these agencies and resources as to get to a place that we can have regular outings with less complications and a more directed approach to get wounded warriors out on kayaks fishing.
