thanks bmb,

I think their ready to inspect when the gates open at 6

That's right Don!  As soon as you pay and enter the park, you can head straight to the inspection area and get it done.

zisco, Carolina rig with a very small hook (#10) and  small weight. For trout chartreuse power bait and for bass lures. Stripers free lining which will be shared with you when you get there.
One ounce is to big. Thanks Frank

Scott,  one of our Bass Boats guys got out there today and here is the report...

  Thanks Scott!!!   :smt006

water temp around 70.5 to 71.5.  Slight stain near boat ramp, clear at dam end of lake.  10 mph speed limit on lake so its a long haul to the dam.  I caught six fish, all large mouths, only two keepers.   Caught on lipless crank bait and small (3") jerk bait both in a sexy shad type color.  I heard of only 1 striper and 1 cat being caught today, but it looked like maybe only six or eight boats on the water.  I only fished from 10:30 to 4, and had weather from windless bright blue skies to cloud cover to sprinkles with some moderate wind.  Didn't mark many fish, but electronics are definitely a weak point for me.  Did see a fair amount of tiny bait fish (1" to 1.5") on the surface.

Charley - Make sure everything is dry, from vests to dock lines, bilges, motor, built in cooler, everything.  Much more stringent inspection than say Clear lake.  They asked me to stress to Don again about having dry kayaks.

Anyone camping needs to get in touch with Frankfishing....   :cowboy_cool:

You should be able to check in anytime past 2pm, and should be able to use the pass I sent out to identify who you are...

Frank will have passes for the cars but that may not be necessary...

I'll know more tomorrow night...

you also should get your yaks or boats check that day, they wanted me to stress to everyone that if anyone comes in after the inspection closes, not to hit the water till your boat is inspected...

the camp also needs to be clear by 12 the next day as they do have it reserved for that day... SooOOoooooo.....

Frankfishing is the Camp Master....   :cowboy_cool:

All questions should be directed to him....

  Thanks  Frankfishing      :smt006

Don

Thanks for the report. Doesn't sound good except for the baitfish. Too warm for a turnover so the  topwater bite is less likely. Still think bait soaking is the best bet but will launch at 7 for some recon. The dam is only 20 minutes max by PB and a nice boat ride so am thinking reasonable option. I am thinking go big or go home on the troll so will be pulling the BIG sebiles.

Just want to put a Special shout out to

" Wilderness Hunter "... up there in Grass Valley...

He won't be able to attend but has been using his " special powers... "  to get alot of things donated ....

He has been pounding the pavement and beating the bushes and has gotten us cases of power bars and pastries, 5 cases of water, some pepper's farm cracker snacks, some small cash donations, and 1 large coffee maker, maybe 2 to make hot apple cider and is still working to get more stuff as the deadline approaches to meet up with Racinrob for the drop off....

Thanks Again Wilderness Hunter and Racinrob for getting us this stuff, it's going to make a big difference in being able to get the Vets something quick and easy and out on the water as we work on the main feast....

  Strong Work!!!!     :salut:

I was asked sometime ago to write about free lining for Stripers at Del Valle Reservoir above Livermore. So here it is in hopes that many of you won’t have to go through the challenge of learning these techniques like I had too.
First of all there is no magic to it. All it calls for is a hook tied directly to your line (same as WSB). Bait that will sink and location, location, location…
The neat part is that at places like Del Valle the Stripers are not the only species that will hit on this setup.  Many times I have come home with not only Stripers but large catfish that taste nothing like the murky waters of the Delta. I have even served these Catfish to my family (who would never eat Catfish) as fish tacos. So the Stripers nice and clean the Catfish are delicious.

Simply tie your 5/0 hook to your line (8 to 12 lbs test).Take the hook and bring it through the gill plate. You should have the point on one side of gill plate and shaft on the opposite side.
Turn shaft so that it lies against the anchovy so test line and pull towards the tail. At this point simply tie a half hitch onto the base of the tail and your set to go.
For those who do not know what a half hitch is please view this site and tie as many half hitch knots as you fill comfortable with. I use one.

As for location: the red clay bank along the opposite shore of the launch has what is needed. Parallel your kayak to the bank in shallow water. Tie off to what ever you can and cast into water that is 10’ to 20’ deep. I like casting into a sloping area about 20’ away that gradually slopes from the shore then drops to 10’ to 20’ depth.
Leave your bail open and when a strike happens you’ll know it when line starts to feed quickly through your rod. Wait minimally 3 to 5 seconds before sitting the hook with your bait casting reel or spinning reel and then if necessary let the fish help you land it by going for a sleigh ride.
If your location does not produce with in 20 minutes move on to your next location and repeat the process. You’ll find them if you keep searching.
Hope this help’s.
