Thanks for the info Ben,
For this event I will keep it in the main lake only.
This will allow for assistance if anyone should need it (afternoon wind)

See Ya There,

The launch was easy - near the top of the ramp,
Be sure your brakes are in decent shape
The road from 108 down to the lake is all downhill (5+ miles)
Not too steep but enough to warm them up a bit.
I would also suggest a pull out every now and again if towing to let them cool.

Just a warning - Wind picks up around noon and blows to the East.
I was in a Pb but it could make for a tough paddle if you are in the river too late.

This is no joke.  A couple years back I was in my small aluminum skiff and coming out of the river arm in the early afternoon and we were taking spray from whitecaps over the bow.  It can get gnarly.

Best lures would be Uncle Larry's (or similar) spinners in green or pink or Wholly Buggers in Black and Olive (guides suggested running without flashers or dodgers).

Interesting as I've done well with flashers, usually on the smaller side, trailed by a lure or 'crawler.  I've only landed 12"-16" so I guess I'll defer to the guides on this one.

This Resavour has very steep walls - all will work but leadcore might be your best bet to avoid catching rocks :smt002

In the past, when I've trolled, you can get away with toplining early on, but as the day progresses, you will want to go deeper.  That said, I've spent days trolling from 25-40' for nada.

Ben, I'd say after a mile or 2 down the road, downshift to 2nd gear, and this will take some pressure off of your brakes.  As you get even closer to the lake, it gets a little steeper, and you can even shift down into 1st gear.  Eric's advice for pulling over is a good one, especially if you smell your brakes.  That said, I've never had to because I've done the downshifting thing and was driving a full size pick-up with a small, lightweight boat.  Also, if you're replacing your brakes because it's time, then do it, but if you're only doing it because of the hill, it probably isn't necessary, providing you have experience pulling a trailer.

Last question Eric, I promise.  For those camping on the other side of the lake, is there any way around not having to come and sign in the morning of?  I'd like to be able to slide my yak in the water and be off fishing.  Will you be arriving Saturday night?  Can we fill out the waver and mail it to you?  Can we check in via VHF?  Obviously if need signatures the morning of, I'll be there, but would love to not have to paddle over to the launch ramp.

Also, on your number list of people attending, you skipped number 8.  :smt002

To be fair to all anglers I will have to have everyone check in in the am.
This may be an inconvenience for some but it will help keep the playing field even.
Might be a good idea to paddle/troll over to the sign-in but after the check-in at 1pm it might be a hard paddle back to the campground against the wind.

Eric -

I am also on the fence but will know by next Wednesday. I do have a few questions:

1. Are dogs allowed at the campground, on a kayak and in the water?
2. Do you have an extra fish measuring device I can borrow? (not being AOTY, anything I target ends up on a plate) :smt005

Thanks! Scott

So long as Sara and I can share one, I have an extra you can borrow for the day Scott!

Scott, want me to give the ranger station a call for you to find out?

Hope to see you there.  Will it be a day trip?

Yup, just called the Summit Ranger Station and they confirmed what Jeff just said.  Dogs are allowed in campground.  I didn't specifically ask about kayaks, but they are allowed on boats.  I assume if lake lice are allowed in the water, then a dog is too.  Here is the number for the ranger station in Pinecrest: 209 965 3434.

I realize that the launch ramp is close but if I don't have to load my yak Saturday night and then unload it at the ramp, it is time saved.  Guess I'll decide when I get there.
