Eric I got a yak board last summer...Super fun and a great diversion when the fishing is slow and waves are good.

I'd say yak exp is more important then surfing exp. Just playing in 2 ft waves is fun. It's crazy how easy that tiny boat is to turn.....

In my earlier days I was a fair surfer (must be my Hawaiian Blood) and was always on a skateboard.
Now it's strictly the long board for me (both surf and skate).

We'll now that we have over 40 people paid and ready to go maybe we should make sure the new people all have groups with experienced kayakers. Should we start a list with the teams?

I'm not on any team yet... I"m assuming that on Friday night, as we're talking (fish stories no doubt) and drinking beer by the fire, I'll somehow get on a team.  If not, I'll just tag along a team that looks the most experienced  :smt044

Thanks for the info everyone, I really appreciate it. Could someone give me the info for the camp site? I have a tent trailer and would be bringing it (along with all the beer my care can hold). I have all the necessary fishing gear and would hoping to pair-up with a more experienced ocean kayaker once there. Thanks,

Tell them you're with the kayak group for the rockfish/lingcod opener.

It's good advice to read this entire thread - it's a little bit of a pain, but there's a ton of good info, photos and some history in these pages.

You may even want to read all through last year's post!   :smt005  (search the "hookups" page for the biggest thread of all time...   :smt004

Thanks for the information. I will contact MBK to see if I can attend the safety class before the trip. The trip looks really fun and I look forward to meeting some new people. Thanks again,

Scott

p.s. I have a wetsuit, compass, and whistle. What else will I need?

Scott - do a hull integrity test on your new T13 before your safety class if possible. Check for leaks right side up and upside down. Some of the deck loops on my T15 weren't sealed. You don't want to find out you have a leak out on big blue. Last year there was an incident with a T13 I believe. Scott

I'll have to get back to you on that - or maybe cajun will help us out with that  - he has the boat and has graciously agreed to haul it to Shelter Cove for the tournee.  I just had to twist his arm with a cold Sierra Nevada at closing time last night...   :smt001
