Ab diving for easy 7 to 8 inchers is very close, and the minus tides in the mornings will create a situation where, literally, anyone who buys an ab card should be able to get abs with just a wetsuit.  If you buy an ab card, have an iron and guage, and get in the water down from the lighthouse at a minus 1.5' tide you will find lots of abs.  The problem is that most of them are just under the legal 7" size.  Patience and a little bit of adventurous spirit in the cold water and you will have easy abs.   :smt001

If Salmon season is still a go during this shindig, I can probably bring a box or two of lead balls for those who want to troll but don't have a D.R. (keep your fingers crossed). I will also have at least one extra Kayak avail. if someone needs a loaner.

Oh Yah!!!
56 more days - not a count down - just excited :smt003

I would like to do some Ab Diving while up there (went once many years ago up by Point Arena and loved it), but have no dive gear at all and doubt I can come up with the cash to get all I need before May...   :smt009

Is there a dive shop in Shelter Cove that rents the necessities??

I see online there is one in Fort Bragg that has the works, but looking at the map it seems like that would be quite a bit out of the way if we were coming straight up on the 101...

Any suggestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated!!

Also, my wife has agreed to come up and bring our daughter with us so I will be in the market for a few extra t-shirts if there will be any available for sale!!

Looking forward to seeing you all up there!!
 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Hi Jim,

There's no diveshop in Benicia!  I suggest you rent one from a diveshop in your area.  They usually let you rent it for a weekend package.

I'd like to loan you some gear, Jim, but you might be too big!  I'm 6' and 205# - will you fit in my extra gear?

You could at least just rent the suit and booties and we could hook you up with all the little pieces like weight belt, hood, fins, ab tools...etc.

Thanks guys!!

Yeah, I'm 6' 4" 240ish...don't think I could squeeze in your gear!!!   :smt003

Yeah, I can probably rent a thicker suit somewhere here in town (if I can't convince the wife to let me buy it first!!) and then hopefully I can borrow enough of the other goodies to get out and get wet!!

If not, no worries at all...just really looking forward to checking the place out, meeting you guys and hopefully catching a few fish!!!

Sincerely,

Jim

Hey Yakhopper or others,

If that spare Kayak is still up for grabs?  Would you be willing to allow my girlfriend to use it? We'll be up on Friday and stay til Monday. Is it a sit on top? Appreciate the consideration. Otherwise, we'll rent her one. Thanks in advance,

SRJ- Shannon

I got my reservation card in the mail!  WooHoo!  I can't wait.  To celebrate I went into the shop and poured a bunch of swimbaits and lifted a glass to GMS 4.  My wife and daughter are pretty excited.  My daughter is waiting for me to catch her some more Abalone.  I am not sure if she likes the meat or the shells more.  We will see how the new (to us) trailer pulls over the hill.  That is the closest my wife gets to "camping".

I just got a new stringer and drift sock from Hook 1.  Of course if it is windy there, the swells may just eat you  :smt009  I put my Abking/BlackAb special Hawg Trough extention on, I know I am going to need it this year!

Any one hearing any rumors about a salmon season?  I hear it may be a go, but might be the short season they gave us last year.  Not looking too good for the rivers though.  That would be really sweet to troll for some salmon, jig some lings, and drive home with a new kayak!

I can wait to play around with my camera dive housing some more.  I can film some dive action to make everyone who isn't going extremely jealous and wrought with envy.  I hope there is some good visibility.  It was really increadable last year.  Did any of your dive video's and pictures turn out of our ab dive BlackAb?

I have to get busy and finish up the fish knockers and gaffs.  I got the wood, I just have to clean up the lathe!  The nice weather has me inspired to get some work done.

Any case, I am ready!  Can't wait to see all my buds again.

Matt

See you then if not sooner.

YAY! I'm on the paid list! Wouldn't miss this for the world (or jury duty on 5/17...)!
Shannon, I might have a spare yak to loan. I have a P15 that lives up there, so if I haul my T140 or T13 up there, you can definitely borrow my P15. I'm just debating if I want to make the 7-hr drive w/a yak on the roof. I'll try to have an answer for you soon.

50 more days until..... :smt068

We have at least two members coming to this event who rent boats through their businesses.

Cajun can hook you up through Pro Sport Center/Outdoor Store in Eureka/Arcata.

Swellrider can hook you up through Humboats out of Eureka.

Humboats:  (707) 443-5157 - you will deal directly with Hawk (Swellrider) or his wife.

Outdoor Store:  (707) 822-0321 - you will need to get in touch with Greg (cajun).
