Hello Nor Cal Kayak Anglers!

I just registered to be apart of this site and look forward to getting some much needed info. I just purchased a Trident 13, and took it out for the first time Sunday. I'm new to Kayak Fishing and would love to be apart of the Ling Cod fishing trip. Any information would be helpful. Is there still room for a rookie fisherman? Also, how do I register? thanks,

Scott

Scott - Welcome, but we already have 2 Scotts on the board. Here are the 3 steps...
1. Send a check or money order for $25 to Eric Stockwell PO Box 432 Loleta, California  95551
2. Attend a safety or paddling class like the one at MBK
3. Purchase the recommended safety gear

Thanks for the information. I will contact MBK to see if I can attend the safety class before the trip. The trip looks really fun and I look forward to meeting some new people. Thanks again,

Scott

p.s. I have a wetsuit, compass, and whistle. What else will I need?

Safety requirements for GS4 tournament participation:

- fish in teams of at least two
- PFD use per CG regs
- dress for submersion - farmer john wetsuit w/ paddling jacket/dry top, full drysuit or full wetsuit
- each team must have an operable VHF submersible radio
- each team must have prior ocean experience
- each team must have a camera and measuring device
- each team must have a compass and should have a GPS

I carry each of the items listed plus flares, a pump, flotation for my yak, a couple whistles, my cell phone, duct tape, water, a drift sock, an extra paddle, and other misc. gear.

It is suggested that you take a paddling safety class.  There are 3 such classes at MBK prior to GS4.

It's possible that a VHF or two may be available on loan at the tournee, but it's best to get one or get together and fish with someone who has one.

Scott - here is the info. Basically bring a keg of beer, come up with a cool team name, and people with a tons of equipment will join your team.  :smt005 Scott

Scott I was a newbie there last year,
and beside fishing and camping gear,
I would suggest,
 a VHF radio
a camera to photo all those lings, cabs, verms, etc.

You will meet a great bunch of yak fishin brothers there :smt003

Welcome to the madness :smt003

We'll now that we have over 40 people paid and ready to go maybe we should make sure the new people all have groups with experienced kayakers. Should we start a list with the teams?

Not sure,
but I believe the teams will fish the same areas but seperate into groups of 2 (1 OG and 1 Newb)
Either way it will be a great time and all Newb's will have an OG to hang with.
BTW - Officially LESS than 2 months to go  :wav:
