I thought the best way to ruin your hobby was to try and make money at it.  Now I have to add make points with it too.  I paid my money, the new format is interesting AOTY is only 4 years old, I'd hasten to say it is a legacy. Hojo has the right idea.  Bsteves you forgot tule perch.  They're the only freshwater embiotocide. I imagine that most of the top 10 will have the OG species.  I would really like to see someone catch all 20.  We should make some t-shirts for anyone who can do it.  Thanks to the AOTY committee for adding some variety to the format.

Jim
catch all 20? thats quite a feat for sure when you include WSB!

I have to humbly disagree that the new format will lower prestige for past AOTY champs.  I was fortunate to have won 2007 AOTY, and I wouldn't advocate the new rules if it took anything away from that accomplishment.

If anything the new easier format will increase the prestige for past AOTY champs. You will be forever among an elite group of guys that won when it was brutally hard to win. Meanwhile you have stripped us newbies for a chance to win under the same set of rules.

I haven't seen any kayakfishing reports here where anglers went out targeting the majority of the newly added species. If this is mainly about the salmon issue I think adding WSB as an alternate for salmon would have been more "sporting" but if it's really only about "increasing participation" then Party On Garth!

It will be interesting to see who's got the sack to post up their bluegill.

I was ready to stop participating in AOTY because I've learned that I don't care to spend the time pursuing some of the species.  Now I'm reinvigorated about this new format.  As for the old format and the prestige of the 'original 10', I respect that, but really the info about where to go, how to fish and catch those 10 has gotten stale because that's all we've seen for 4 years.  Now we'll have a better variety of adventures in new locations and with more characters involved.  I think it's cool, and I'm just glad no one is here being negative with anything like, "quit trying to ruin AOTY."

Well done, Bill, BSteves and crew.

Ok so I posted my first fish of 2010. It wont come up on the board. Does it have to be reviewed by a panel first? I see no participant list either. Am I being too impatient? Sorry. Never mind I ust read about my question on the other 2010 thread. DOH!

Don't worry, your fish are there, check under "Most Recent".
http://aoty.ncka.org/catch/list_recent

The won't show up on the "Leader Board" until Bill has time to validate that you have paid in the AOTY database (I haven't figured out a way to link this into his paypal account yet ;) )

i saw that..but i can tell you that when i used to fish amador off the docks, i'd catch a 14-15" crappie every trip.  seriously amador crappie are freaking plates.  best average size of any crappie lake i've fished at.

and jim, i'd have no regrets posting a bluegill.  I love to catch all fish, regardless of size.  a 7" bluegill puts up as good of a fight as a 18" vermillion pound for pound.  i fish them on all ultralight gear, 2lb test and it's a freaking blast.

Thanks Brian. Whoever said this new format was going to be fun, well, they were so right. Its already being fun. The photos and the quotes around the pics this year are going to be worthy of a reality show. Bring on the fun!
