i am pretty sure there is enough interest to go back to the river on sunday, it was a lot of fun fishing in that sweetwater. maybe leave the bay area at 6 am and be in the water by 8 am. who's in?
-here is what i learned
-bring more beer and water than usual
-bring many 2 oz gibbs minnow or similiar[just 2 oz of painted lead with a treble at the end]
-mono over spectra, the spectra keeps wrapping the tip of the rod with all that jigging. i will use 20lb test, the fish looked BIG
-a med light rod, for the relentless jigging
 - 2, 3 way rigs for trolling a spinner with a 3 oz weight
-a big net, gaffing is NOT LEGAL  in the river

Chris... good lessons learned....I agree.  Another float trip with a good group would be fun.  I'll see if I can go Sunday.

Just curious.... does anybody know anyone who's already landed one of these big salmon off a kayak in the Sac or Delta? :smt017

Count me in! Just need direction and the float plan.

For example: Do you drop-off kayaks where you launch and drive vehicles down to where you pull out?

-do i need kayak wheels

-how long does the drift take from start to finish

feel free to contact me at 408-210-6126

I'll be there. My son might join us also.

I have the trolling tackle, no jigs. I'll have to pick some up.

Chuck what's the Hot Color for the Gibbs?
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Black, Black/Red were the hot colors according to the experienced local who gave us tips.  Since September he and his buddy already caught 83 salmon including over half dozen over 40 pounds.

I will check with the wife and see if I can break free.  A nice float down the river would be nice.  How close to Sac is the launch?

I'll be there sunday. Chuck I pm'd you with my 'secret' for the hooks.  Spinners,   k14 flatfish, and the lightest gibbs minnows you have. 2.0 oz are usually too heavy. The lighter the jig the more time on the drop and that is where the bites happen. Bring spreader bars for back trolling flatfish and 4oz weights with light leader line that will break if you snag your weight.

I'll pass....I'm still looking for my first BIG striper....I'd be happy to catch just one on the double digit range. Still deciding on San Luis, Lake Del Valle or Oyster Point  :smt017

I don't think Joel wants to be there when his $100 jackpot leader gets beat by one of his buddies.  Or perhaps, he's just... :smt117

The guys this Sunday are aiming for the salmon jackpot... so Joel is trying hard to show up Sean and steal his striper jackpot. :smt018
