Lets me start by saying THANK YOU!!

I have been reading post more than I probably read my email! Thats how addicted I am :smt002 the reason I am posting this is to get feedback from others, I could have just email it but that takes out the fun! :smt005, this may be an old issue but I received emails about posting on hookup and read some thread how peeps get tons of non NCKA rundown their favorite spot locals or non locals, and it hits me! what about we make the hookups members only! I think I might receive some hates email in posting this, but, I am afraid to post hook on certain areas I like to fish fearing I am running down someones favorite spot, I was told that if I want to fish the certain area I'll try to email locals first to avoid lurkers going the same time... that being said what do you think (general) ? should we make the HOOKUPS Members Only or NOT?

Sorry to add this on your to do list since I know how busy you guys are! :smt007 :smt007

IMHO since hookups often contain info about spots, previous action, and other things that were probably protected by MO status when they were in MO reports, then Hookups should also have an MO option to keep things level. Not trying to make MO elitist but rather saying if someone wants to info they need to give as well as receive and be part of the community--not just a lurker sponging info.

I'm against it because it is a Hook Up section. Specific fishing locations do not have to be posted. Then again, there are already people communicating privately on hookup plans; so why start dividing the forums in half? Next thing, someone will insist on not sharing fishing tips/advice with just anyone.

I get your point and I agree somewhat--but that is already happening and is on the increase from my experience. the idea of a Hookups section was to centralize communication and eliminate all the PMs and phone calls, now to avoid  info leaking to non-members, we are back to PMS and Phone calls. We've lost something.

I've made a lot of new friends in the Hook-ups that's what so great about this site. I say no more Rules if you don't want your info known just don't post it simple. Why ruin the enthusiasm of new members. If you really want to keep your spots secret post them on Central Coast Kayak
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

You make good points--I have also met people through hookups. I am "flip-flopping" and now doubt the value of MO for Hookups, not because it would keep things more secure, but because it would risk turning our growing open community into a closed elitist group.

IMO hookups dont need to be MO.  There are already lots of MO hookups being made via PM's.

I agree with Mike here....hooking up is the key to why NCKA is growing for the better. Shicken also makes a point about the fact that hook-ups are being made via PM's already. IMO: If we start doing everything through PM's, then NCKA will not grow. Some feel that NCKA is already getting too big and that all secret spots will no longer be secret spots. This is where "choice" comes into place...If you want your spot to stay secret, then don't post 'em at all. It's as simple as that.

I personally still post on the hook-up section cause I'm simply a social kayak fisherman and I don't mind newbies tagging along when I go out on trips. But there are also times when I do the PM thing just out of respect to those who only want to fish in small groups.

While were talking about it, I would love to see the number of forums simplified.  There are too many similar forums such as rigging and rigged as well as the nested tournament section that doesn't need to be nested.  Simple is good, and I think the org at NWKA is pretty much perfect.

I agree with Sean and I think it could be simplified. The rigging example he cited is a good example.

What Mooch and SBD said.

Another reason why some of us don't post hookups on a regular basis is because all you have to do is check the WX and know if you go...  they'll be there.
