Stu - I think just about everybody here agrees with what you are saying. We've all seen it. Fort Ross is a prime example.

I think the issue here (for me anyway) is the way some people are going about this whole thing. A few simple PMs to Pat would have probably been sufficient (and it seems that was the case at first) and a post or two....but to keep coming back and beating the subject to death and wishing bad conditions and even ill will upon participants is pretty f**king lame.

Big Sur is no more special than Elk, Albion, or Shelter Cove. You didn't see the "local" board members from those areas crying a river when NCKA get togethers were scheduled for those locations.

I wish I could make it. I was looking forward to this trip for months. Have fun all.

+1

With the closures coming we'll just have to setup more trips to B.S. next year. Wish I could of made this one.

You are over estimating the potentially-negative impacts and waay under estimating NCKA's ability to be environmental stewards & responsible anglers.

Please read Pats Quote first!

What's happening here?! :smt009 I respect everyones opinion and valid reason, but, do you know that the more negative comments people see's here the more you hurt your spot?  :smt012 Think about it, this is going way out of proportion the value and real reason of this Fish and Chill is becoming a laughing matters (at least to others) :smt002 , why cant we just fish, have fun and bullshit each other after, NCKA always represent conviction and respects for locals on any body types of water they fish (I speak on from my experience), I've learned that on events I've attended (several on my first few months), we even clean up even its not our trash!, Its simple PM's would have take care of this (unfortunately you misread PM's to PMS)  :smt005. Please don't use SC and HMB as example this has been long decline before Kayak Fishing was even started, Lastly stop making this sounds like its yours, it's never and never will, kayaker does not have the same impact as the commercial fishing boat (nothins against them) is that simple even locals can hurt if nobody respects,  if you really care so much walk on the habor with your locals and tell them to stop fishing your spot like the way you are doing on this thread, or put a sign saying "Outsider are not welcome you will be hooked and reeled"  :fishing2 Lets just get along, we are all brothers in the same Fraternity and Bonded with the things we loved to do! :smt002

Dustin,
I hear you.  I still fish northern Fisk Mill (~1 mile south of horseshoe) and it's amazing how the decline has been consistent, year after year.  I've had to go the next county.

Darius,
Not sure where I said the ocean was "mine".  The ocean belongs to all of us, including the next generation.  Which is my motivation is to protect it and slow it's decline.  Try to imagine the future, not today.  You'll comprehend, once you've seen greener pastures turn brown.  But by then, it's too late.

One event wont put a dent in the population.  The concern is about the incremental future pressure.
A person who's never gone.  Then goes back with 3 of his friends.  Then they go back with their friends, etc.  Given time, it will have an impact.

Let me also say, that I don't mean any disrespect to a newbie, as we were all newbies at one point.
The point I'm trying to make is that RCG are susceptible to fishing pressure, more so than other species.  Attracting more pressure is counter productive to the fish that you and I both treasure.

Cheers,
Stuart

Well put Potato River... thankyou for expressing yourself so eloquently. You basically said it in a nutshell, describing what is meant by blowing up a fishery, and the adverse effects on our local fishing grounds... Basically, this entire time, what I have been trying to get at is that the goods shouldn't be given away in bulk, and that most of you should go out and discover a spot on your own... Put your time in and get to know it... Pat, who hasn't really been fishing that area very long, or fishing in general, is kinda shortsighted and doesn't really understand the ramifications of bringing a big group down all at once... What is a Sin Coast anyway? The older wiser ones know to keep certain things secret so that they will be preserved for many generations to come.
This thread has shown a lot about many of you folks... There are those of you who get it, and those of you who, are well, kinda dumb and shortsighted.... Well, maybe, unseasoned is a better way to put it.
Someday everyone will learn that the quick and easy route doesn't produce the  best long term results..
Livin tha pirates life full time! Catchin big cbass in tha kelp all summer long Have fun, live well, conserve the resource, and ask me about my secret fishing spots. but I probably won't tell you, cuz their secret!

Brendan, off all the thing I hate generally is hypocrisy, Do you fish other spot? Do you keep your limit? Wait did you ever keep an almost juvenile WSB? Did you leave some for the locals to catch? They may not be rockfish but I am sure you get the "picture"! :smt011

Brendan, there was a time I wanted to fish with you. No longer.  You have tried to make everyone who wants to fish down there feel poorly. You are a poor sport my freind and slamming Pat while he's down there trying to put together a nice hook-up is bullshit. I dont think anyone is going to destroy your little honey hole down there. Members of NCKA are conservationists. Rhyak as soon as you think that there is no place in Ca. like Big Sur you are nuts. There are plenty of places that are  actually more pristine thna Sur. Oh and please dont ever show your faces in Sonoma County this county is mine and you are not welcome. Stay away for ever because you are not a local here. Ha ha ha ha. Big joke , Huh? :smt006 :smt008

I got friends living near Salt Point who would gladly host me to fish up there... in fact, I've got friends all up and down the coast who would gladly host me to fish with them, and they get what I am saying and respect it and all concepts held behind it...
