The one thing that I havent heard here is the responsibility to take care of your own things. If I leave my stuff on the beach unattended, dont I have some part in the loss?

So while you are in jail for assault and battery you can then think about it. Then when you are forced to go to anger management for another 2 years  you can think about it some more. If you feel like someone is punking you or not respecting you , its about your own poor esteem of yourself. If you cannot rise above it, it will plague you for the rest of your life.

Its interesting how these threads wind around.

There's something else about Phoneman's message that's kind of interesting about Americans.  Many people believe that crime in the US is increasing at some incredible rate.  Its how the media makes their money.  But contrary to these beliefs, the crime rate in the US is generally falling - and has been for about the last twenty years.

In fact a few months ago, the Press Democrat had a headline saying just that for Santa Rosa.  They had their lowest crime stats in 20 or 25 years.

There's probably a lot of factors, like more and better law enforcement, but the articles I've read also point to another factor.  As the bubble of the baby boomers is moving on, we've become an older society.  Geezers generally commit less crime than young guys full of man juice.

Been there and done that, boss. I've done my time for my crimes, paid my debt to society. I know who I am as a person and can look myself in the mirror and be proud. I can't say I'm an angel or a saint but now just try to live my life in a righteous way. I've learned some lessons the hard way in the past and still have more to learn. What if someone was robbing the body shop were you work (I believe I read this in a previous post) and you had the chance to successfully intervene? Would you rely on the law then, as well? Or how about seeing an elderly woman getting her purse snatched on the street? Law enforcement cannot always be relied upon 100% of the time. DaveW, interesting statistics, you're probably onto something there. I wish they would take affect where I live and grew up.

If the body shop got robbed chances are no one would be there. If someone came there with the intent to rob and I thought they had guns or the like I would say have at it man , here let me help you , then call the cops. If I see a lady get her purse snatched and the dudes hightailing it my first concern is if the woman is ok. Shit in the purse can be replaced. Then again i dont know if the dude got a gun. Chances are they do.

Now here is another scenario for you and prove this to be  wrong. Your son gets his bike stolen from the big bully at school . You have taught him that at all costs not to lose face or be punked. Your son knows he cant kick the bullys ass or get his bike back. Whats the next best thing? Get a gun to do business with? A knife. You have then taught your son that above all aspects of the law that he is within his rights to retrieve his property. After all he doesnt want to let you down now does he. You have then failed your son, yourself, and society.

I am not a punk or afraid to mix it up if it comes to that. I just have different way to look at things.

Okay, alright, point made and taken. I can respect your point of view. I don't really want to beat a dead horse, so on a lighter note and completely off subject, don't you fish paradise cove for the hali's? I've been entertaining the idea of trying out that spot or for some dinos in the bay. Maybe one of these days you could show me the hot spots. No love lost during this debate I hope

Hey guys. I think we all just need to do more fishing and everything else will work itself out.  Can anyone help me figure out the problem with my Eagle fish easy 320c.  I have power but no transducer.  I show water temp but no depth.  This is my second transducer.  In the past, the female connector rotted out.  Does anyone make a replacement connector.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks  Phoneman

Once you got your stuff you should have commenced with a beatdown.   :smt021  At the least they deserved a good bitch-slapping...glad you caught the little pricks!

Peace is the way of the warrior. Not  violence.

unfortunately peace isnt always on the mind of the criminal and being a "breadwinner" i also assume the role of defender of my family.

i know police dont usually show up til there is a report to be written. thats a fact.

not trying to be a hero but a man does have the right to protect his family and with budgets waning people will most likely see fewer police in the future.

peace is a nice concept but not all criminals come with peaceful intents.

let me ask you this, man walks into your home with a gun and you have a wife and baby. let him do what he will and then call the cops? you are crazy. you are the one who doesnt get it. dont fall for the belief the cops will protect you in hard times. its not their obligation.

It was my understanding of California law that, if someone comes into your home with a gun and threatens you, your wife and baby, and you have no other option, then violence is actually legal. Even lethal violence.

Its legal to defend your home but the civil lawsuits will bankrupt you afterwards.  Our legal systelm is a liberal mess, and has nothing to do with justice.

John that's not what Craig was talking about he was referring to Material things If Craig's wife baby or friends were in danger he wouldn't hesitate to use force two completely different things.

apologies for my misunderstanding. i think with material things i would not use lethal force and would definitely let the "legal" system run its course although it might not end up ever getting handled. if it was personal defense in the home i would not hesitate to use lethal force but i hope to god i never would have to. nobody wants to be tied to anything like that willingly.

in this day and age its unfortunate that people still want to take what is not theirs and there is a tremendous sense of entitlement that runs rampant. people feeling like others owe them something for absolutely nothing.

i do agree that if you leave your property unattended you are partly to blame because being adults we know people are not always honest as much as i'd like to believe they are.

i do apologize to ravensblack for the misunderstanding. i do see eye to eye with you on the material items and i'd be the first to part with material items before trying to fight it out with someone but i'd definitely turn them in and do everything i can to make their getting away hell.

people should just respect one another more. who gives anyone the right to take or disrespect others anyways? seems more people these days have a sense of entitlement and its just crazy. work for what you want and live happy knowing you worked for it and didnt steal it from someone who did.
