Abking,

You're right, this has been an award winning thread. Lots of insights on both sides of the conversation.

PK,

You are definitely right in that there is no reason to take a punitive roll and beat the carp  :smt002 out of someone who may be down on their luck or desperate. What I do strongly believe in is accountability, and in the case here at the plant, this guy WAS going to be accountable , he just didn't know it at the time.

Yakuza,

No, I don't own the company, I am the GM, (goofy man?).

Thanks for the offer to paddle your Hobie, but it might anger the Ocean Kayak gods and a leak may occur around my scupper holes sending my P13 down into Davy Jones  Locker while I bail like a madman all the time wondering ("did I put enough noodles in there???)

And, since the 2 mile chase the bad guy run I started bike riding at lunch. I ride 25 miles a week.

And Sean,

If you're out alone searching for that hidden reef off Natural Bridges, your yak starts taking on water and your VHF dies, WHO and HOW are you going to call for help??? :smt004

What no one has mentioned is this is just one of many reason why concealed carry should be allowed in this Liberal state of ours.  No need to worry about some punk having a gun when you also have one- evens the odds at least.  Criminals will always have access to weapons no matter the laws, why should law-abiding citizens loose the right to protect themselves, their families, and their property?

I bike to work 3-4 times a week, we have a Cage area with a bike rack, about two weeks ago I caught three kids in there.  I reported it to security.  In hind sight part of me wanted to grab them, and part of me knew if I did, it would be me getting the law suit from some angry parent.  Since then I now remove the seat post.

Is this question for me?
If that situation occurred I think I'd be SOL, unless the "Man Overboard" function on my GPS worked. It'd be a long swim in. I'm fully aware that there's really No One out there unless you're lucky. Solo outings need to be within swimming distance of the shore for me.

back on topic, one of my friends recently had his Subaru WRX stolen from his house by a "friend". Up at first light after arriving home to find the car gone, he calls it in & then takes it upon himself to start looking. A 20 minute stakeout of the last place she worked and bingo, there she is, picking up her last paycheck (she was fired 2 days prior it turns out).
He calls the SCPD on his cellphone & gets her & her "accomplice" busted in front of Denny's on Ocean street. They had gotten "levy supplies" for a trip to Oregon & were on their way to get the Subaru from a parking lot in the flats, probably to try & turn it into cash. The subaru trunk was full of smash-n-grab stuff, cd's, cellphones, ipod etc.
Anyway, the funny thing is that my friend gets his car back washed and FULL OF GAS (it was on E when stolen).  :smt044

So, perps in jail, stolen property returned, happy ending.

As Americans, if we don't start standing up for what is right, this country will no longer exist.  Let's say, right now, there are ten percent bad people and ninely percent good.  As that ratio of bad people starts getting larger, mostly from immigration from third world countries, what and when are good people going to say I have had enough. A man has to be able to be proud and face diversity head on, and when he does, other men need to back him up.  Imagine if everytime some dirt bag littered someone said, he buddy, pick that up.  There would be no litter.  We, as a so called civilized society, should be able to police ourselves, but, sometimes we are afraid.  Stand up Americans and fight for this great country.  Phoneman
