What an epic trip it was, and all the thanks in the world to Abking and his amazing organization skills.  We had a few initial miscues, like me pushing my yak off Padraic's roof and crunching his side mirror.  And oh yeah, me having an epic 10-minute battle with what turned out to be a starfish...oops.   But beside that it turned out great.  Weather and conditions were perfect, and the fish were biting.  My thanks to the team who brought instruments... I hope it sounded OK.

Here are some pics.  Not nearly as many as I thought turned out; I had some water on the lens so they weren't all clear.  Note the giant redwoods, which we saw on the way in and which I would totally recommend to anyone next time (ask Abking for suggestions).  See the HUGE first tasty fillet come off Domenic's giant halibut.  See Ariel hooked up with yet another fat cod.  Also note Padraic (known as Padre to some), who has NOT been a fisherman all his life like some of us, really getting into it; he had the HOT HAND the last day.

Abking you rule.  Totally perfect trip.

We just couldn't bear to leave on Sunday so we went to north end of town and had lunch at the deli there, the " Fish Bowl ",  nice place, got to talking with the locals and one of the surfing dudes there said he went to go surfin at the North End and spotted a GWS cruising the shore...
He did not go surfing that Day... :smt009

They also got entertained by a Pod of Killer whales 2 days before our event, training the " Pups " by singeling out a large seal and thrashing it around letting the juveniles take a wack at it...

They said it was Unbelievable, right off the shore Break....

Unless we got pics, it didn't happen right?
 :smt044

OH...we HAVE pics?!
 :smt009

Yeah, my parents forwarded these pics to me today. They were taken Monday or Tuesday....a few days before we arrived. I believe these pics were taken by D Bull.
These orcas are SCARY CLOSE to the shore.
Enjoy!

Thank you Eric for organizing such an awesome event.

Except for the long drive, I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend trip. I caught more fish and larger fish than ever before.

After being out in the rough swells with everyone, I now have the confidence to be out in the big blue. At GS4, I'll have enough confidence to hit the buoy area. Can't wait.

Joe

They do see lots of Rizzo dolphins out there.

The weird thing about these orca pics....is that I didn't see very many (if any) sealions out there last wknd. Especially compared to the Monterey area.

I've watched Orcas playing in the surf off Seaside a number of times while Kayak fishing.  I thought it was a pretty cool thing to see . . . are they a potential threat to kayakers?  I never considered them as such.
Fishing is cool

Wow, that's amazing stuff. I have a feeling the "Great White Shark" spotted by the surfer might have been an Orca.
