I looked and watched and looked and bought scotty stuff that didn't look or work right. Then I found these articulated RAM tubes. They fit kind of snug but they work and look good. They also don't interfere with the line of sight to the FF. I also stole one of my wifes small plastic cutting boards for backing. Shhhhhhhh, dont say anything she'll never know. Haha. Here are the pics.

Don't see 'em.

I too am in the market and am curious as to what you decided on.

Ooop, scratch that.  Yup, that is one style I've had my eye on.  Look forward to your detailed analysis. :smt003

I ordered them at Claveys river equipment in Petaluma where I live. I would probably go to the ram website and see if you can order them direct. www.ram-mount.com or phone 206-763-8361

Looks very nice.  Gonna do something similar as well, but plan on using the new plastic tube style like these...

Hook 1 has a pretty good assortment of rod holder parts and pieces.

Looks good Craig. I too am going that route myself. I bought that same
rod holder through hook 1. It is just the matter of finding time to mount
it.

Thats a nice looking tube Sean. With the point to fasten a leash right on the tube definetly keeps the coil away from  the legs. I did notice one thing about the tubes that I mounted and that is even when tightening the wing nut at the base of the tube to the ball mount that it doesn't take much pressure to move the whole thing on the ball. Hmmmm. This great idea could go straight down the tubes. :smt012 No pun intended. I could see that say trolling with a 2 pound weight( if we ever get to fish for salmon in the ocean again) The rod holder might move with the weight. I mean I cranked this sucker down with all I had and could still move the tube. That last pic I showed has the tube down resting on the top deck of the yak which offers some less downward movement when pulling down on the rod. With light weight while trolling I don't think that this will be an issue. Like trout trolling or dragging a minnow or swimbait.

I have the same unit, but when I tighten it down there's no moving it. On the other hand I stopped applying pressure as I watched the hull flex (and I have over-sized backing above and below the mount) and saying too myself "If it gets that bad I've got the drag too tight"... but I've never trolled with heavy weight soooo...

That's the exact one I have in the same location. No issues at all with it blocking the view of the FF. The off-set ones would constantly be bumped by my feet/toes. I really use this mount for bait fishing and light trolling. If I am using heavy lead (like hali's) I troll of the flush mounts in the back. Either way I can tighten it down enough so it doesn't move.

Two tips for ya. First, when you mount the backing plate, use the stainless steel thread anchors pressed into the plastic cutting board, and two. Be sure to glue the rubber tips onto the tubes before you loose em fishing.  :smt002

The new RAM tubes don't have those plastic rims that they used to. Take a look at the pics.

Speaking of rod leashes, they're highly on my sh*t list as of lately. Caused me to lose a nice dino..  :smt010
